This event looks like a huge rout on paper.

They don't play the Orangelife Championship Trophy on paper.

It's slightly insane that there is a team of LPGA tournament champions, officially representing "LPGA", and consisting of the LPGA's current Player of the Year/World #1, current best American player, the current LPGA rookie of the year/USWO champ, the best player of this whole generation, Lydia Ko, etc, etc.... and it's all being completely ignored by the establishment and even by the LPGA itself. This is nothing short of an attack.

They don't play the Orangelife Championship Trophy on paper. Don't under estimate those young KLPGA Players They are playing on their Tuff and didn't have to bring in ringers.

In defense of the powers that be on this side of the Pacific the event is not officially sanctioned by either tour and the LPGA side is restricted to ethnic Koreans so of course they won't pay attention. Changing the first will necessitate changing the 2nd and the sponsor may not go for that.Kevin

In a way, this event is a celebration of women's golf the likes of which the American tour would give their eyeteeth to have. Fans of all ages converge to cheer on their favorites, wearing fan club colors. Little kids are thrilled to get an autograph from their heroes. Old men weep. Middle aged guys carry posters and banners. Mainstream audiences, not small fringe groups, love these female golfers.
The scrappy locals taking on murderers row. Great golf, silly dancing, fist pumps, Lee6 jumping three feet in the air after holing out in the final match against In Gee Chun, even if it wasn't enough to give her team the win.
And it's all organic. Do you think when the KLPGA floated this idea, there was a lot of interest from corporations to get involved? I do. Not a tough sell, not 'give us 5 million dollars for a .3 rating'. It's a vision of what could be that should thrill the LPGA and want them to get involved, if only to see if they can learn anything. Instead, crickets from them. Their loss.

I joke around about the GIC intentionally snubbing Korean golf but if I had to guess I'd say the reaction is discomfort and fear more than anything truly sinister. Putting a spotlight on the party happening over there would mainly serve to highlight the indifference and overall misery going on here. So that's a non-starter, I get it.

Day one is in the books, and the KLPGA has taken a surprising lead, 3.5 to 2.5. Three wins for the KLPGA, two for the LPGA, and one tie.
Match 1: Inbee Park/Danielle Kang lose 4 & 2 to Hye Jin Choi/Hee Jeong Lim.
Probably the KLPGA's best combo manhandled the tournament's hostess and the woman who nearly won in Korea last month.
Match 2: Lydia Ko/Minjee Lee win 3 & 1 over Ji Young Kim/Ye Rim Choi
Match 3: Amy Yang/Mi Hyang Lee All square against Jung Min Lee/Da Yeon Lee
Match 4: Hyo Joo Kim/Eun Hee Ji lose 3 & 1 to Chae Yoon Park/Ha Na Jang
Match 5: MJ Hur/Jeongeun Lee6 lose 4 & 3 to A Lim Kim/Min Ji Park
This one hurts. Lucky Six was probably looking forward to a better homecoming than this!
Match 6: So Yeon Ryu/Jin Young Ko win 3 & 2 over Ji Hyun Kim/Ayean Cho
Injured Jin Young came through with a much needed point here. I love these ladies; this would have been fun to follow!
