I'm picking In Gee to win this week; you see it here first. Oh yeah? Well, I'm picking Shibuno Fever to finish ahead of In Gee this week and to get the win in next week's Toilet Bowl Championship. After which she will reconsider and decide to take up LPGA membership in 2020 after all. Please forget you saw it here first.

It's no surprise that Hinako Shibuno will pass on the LPGA for 2020, but the video translation and Mell's article say she will play in Japan "a few more years". Huh?! Say it ain't so!
Maybe it's my Internet provider, but the video ran sluggishly and had choppy editing.

Airport arrivals:
Is the masked woman at the start So Yeon Ryu?
Annie Park Joy Division shirt = awesome
In Gee at 16:37? I barely recognized her
Green carpet:
I felt sorry for the lady who came in with Na Yeon! She got elbowed right out of there when the press arrived.

"the lady"? Turn in your membership card, that's Jenny from The ROK, hotter than molten lava ... which reminds me, are they doing the ING LPGA vs. KLPGA thing this year? We need another Jenny dance.

In unrelated LPGA news, I went to the KPMG/LPGA website and they have future tournaments laid out far in advance:
Date Event Location June 23–28, 2020 66th KPMG Women's PGA Championship Aronimink Golf Club - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 2021 67th KPMG Women's PGA Championship Atlanta Athletic Club - Johns Creek, Georgia 2022 68th KPMG Women's PGA Championship Congressional Country Club - Bethesda, Maryland 2023 69th KPMG Women's PGA Championship Baltusrol Golf Club - Springfield, New Jersey 2025 71st KPMG Women's PGA Championship Frisco, Texas 2027 73rd KPMG Women's PGA Championship Congressional Country Club - Bethesda, Maryland 2031 77th KPMG Women's PGA Championship Frisco, Texas
Frisco TX is supposed to be the new HQ for the PGA of America ... I guess there's some golf course getting built or renovated there ... that area is K-Town, they should get a good spectator turnout.

Annie Park Joy Division shirt = awesome I caught that too. You never know with these kids though. Stores often just sell shirts with old band names, and kids just buy them, because they're shirts. Sure it'd be way cool if some twenty-something LPGA golfer was actually a fan of a seminal UK post-punk band from the 80s, but I wouldn't count on it. Annie's from the middle of Long Island, I know the area fairly well, and so I doubt she is that cool.

The PGA is all thumbs. Don't send them where the men play, send them where the men can't play.

Sorry, I'm confused. The PGA Championship has been played at all the courses above.

I get why the PGA is sending the LPGA to their stock venues. It's just easier to run a tourney where they have had one before. But there is also a push to get the women on the same courses the men have made famous, like Baltusrol, as a way to boost the profile of women's golf. The men go there because it's +7400 yards. The women could still play at a bunch of neat places the men can't. Somerset Hills, Essex County, wherever. Courses like Lancaster and Charleston were cool. Instead we get Hazeltine's.

Okay, I see what you mean, but the PGA only cares about maximizing REVENUE ... that means bigger properties with more space for bigger grandstands, bigger concessions, bigger souvenir shops, and more hospitality tents/buildings. Lancaster and Charleston were picked by the USGA ... they are the guys who are willing to try new courses every once in a while.
Thanks for suggesting courses in NJ! I was at Somerset Hills CC for 1990 Curtis Cup singles ... I hardly remember it except for a green with a horse buried under it.

Back to the tournament ... one of the Hou sisters is -2 thru eleven holes ... the other one shot 71, -1 at East Lake GC for the U. of Arizona this week.

The FTV stream is working perfectly, but I'm dropping off now ... I have to get up early. They showed some long putts being made ... and short ones being missed ... The New Ko lipped out a one-footer. I haven't seen one golf-related commercial, which is really lame for an Asian market. I like how the local broadcasters call Teresa Lu "Teresa" ... no one would know her under her real name. The woman who is often on Shibuno's bag is not here ... instead it's a guy, probably Japanese as he is wearing Golf 5 logo attire. She just rolled in a four-footer for birdie to go -3 thru 11 holes. They showed a couple shots by Sung Hung ... she is not getting back to #1 any time soon. WTH, The New Ko just had another hairpin lip out. It just occurred to me that no is wearing orange and black.

Round 1 Ugh, not a great start for the Sisters so far. Yeesh. This event was kinda sucky for them last year, too, IIRC. I'm already thinking ahead to next week, but hopefully they can bounce back tomorrow to make something happen. Sounds like Jin Young was making sloppy mistakes. Lee 6 is also not firing on all cylinders, although she frequently takes a round to get in tune. If Ko wants to break 69 for season scoring, she needs to stop shooting above par rounds stat. She should have Vare locked up, but the all-time-low-score-for-a-Korean record is also important, and I hope she can get it. Credit to MJ for a fine day; seems like she will be the only Sister on the coverage on Friday if they re-pair by score like they usually do. OK start for So Yeon, Inky and In Gee. Sisters hwaiting!

That record cover is a pretty cool graphic design, so she might like it for that reason, but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. Now, if it had been In Gee with that shirt, I might have fallen out of my chair. THAT would have been really surprising! (But Inky? I could believe that, rocker chick that she is, although she'd be more likely to be sporting the Stones).

Not a bad day for So Yeon, but it looked much better early. She was minus four on her first nine holes. But not so good on her back nine plus two. She is still making birdies a good sign. That she can have a good tournament.
