Judy on the broadcast today, seemingly in response to Bamberger/Mell:
"I do think though that we, and many other people, are part of introducing the American fan to players from around the world and to try and share what we know about these people...not just as golfers, because that's pretty evident. But as athletes and people otherwise. So if you really have a passion for great golf, or if you have a passion for women's golf, you'll find a way to love this."

I think it's fair to give anyone writing about LPGA for a (hypothetical) American audience a break for pandering. Because if they don't pander, there is literally nothing else to write. Randall Mell merely wrote that he was disappointed that Americans and Euros (frankly I think he just threw in Euros so as to soften the blow) aren't winning more this season, and Lizette Salas, Marina Alex and all their friends literally could not handle it. Imagine if some US-based writer came out point blank and said, "The Koreans are just better." See? They have almost no latitude with which to work. Not that I pity these writers or anything, but covering LPGA for Golf Channel demographic really is an awful, cruel task. Some of these poor people been in the business a very long time.

When was the last time Bamberger covered the LPGA in person? Maybe when Annika was riding high 15 years ago? Wasn't he the guy that called in that penalty on Wie for taking a questionable drop in the desert and she got DQ'd? Technically, that was MW's fault, but that was also a LONG time ago. I don't visit the golf.com website, so I'm guessing that following women's golf is beneath him these days...if I'm mistaken about this, please correct me.
Yes, that smoldering "Korean daddy/coach chestnut" is so old that it's a charcoal briquet by now. After racking my brain through all the women's tournaments I have attended since 1990 (amateur & pro), I can think of only one negative Korean daddy/player interaction - Robynn Ree at the 2018 ShopRite/Acer (see my report). I remember seeing Hana Jang's daddy trying to micromanage her putting practice at Westchester in 2015 ... it wasn't a negative interaction, just ABSURD! Likewise, MHL's daddy might step in with a comment or observation during a practice day or after a round (I think her caddies get the brunt of it), but Mi Hyang has NEVER been a joyless player and I think I'm up to seven events with her. BJ Wie is a clown with his overstuffed notebook and big bag of gadgets, but I've never observed a negative interaction between him and MW ... although I concede there have been times where it looked like she didn't want to be at the golf course.
Some people are not giving these GREAT players credit for having a filter ... do you really think The Hulk needed to depend on help from daddy at Westchester? The Old Ko is extremely loyal and protective of her parents...but she must be smart enough to realize that they know NOTHING about playing golf! I remember Kyeong Bae's dad following KB during her early years on the LPGA....smoking cigarettes, his over-tanned head looking like a Brazil nut. I can't say this for sure, but he didn't look like someone who was responsible for developing and maintaining that beautiful swing of hers.
I believe BJ is likely the original inspiration for the stereotype. Where else would the likes of Bamberger even get the seed for such an idea. We can safely assume they never seen it with their own eyes--except for Michelle and BJ. Michelle and BJ are technically American but hey, we can always blame another culture for their stupid shenanigans, why not.

There's a lot of interesting stuff to respond to here, but let me get back on topic for second, Bio Kim! I looked him up, he's a pretty decent player ... five wins on the KPGA and three on the defunct(?) AsioOne tour. Unless the ROK draft board is after him, his management company should get him some sponsor invites to some of these Mickey Mouse fall events on the PGA Tour ... there is clearly a sympathy rebound for him in the USA ... how can he get the 'Death Penalty' when a punk like Sergio commits one offense after another. Oh, and Jon Rahm freaked out again (video at GC website) ... and morose Cupcake shot his mouth off again ... Bio Kim might be welcomed change.

Bio Kim should come over here and start a new career as the crazy unhinged Korean. I think he would be well received. Fans could greet him on the tee with affectionate middle fingers. It would be fun. However it appears that he is going to try and grovel for his old job instead.

Did you notice in Ol' Randall's response to Alex and Salas that he said he doesn't do P.R. I think that was a back-handed slap at Ron Sirak at lpga.com. You'd think the word 'Rant' in the title of Mell's article would tell you that it was an opinion piece, not a reporting piece ... these two Solheim CFDs players badly overreacted. BTW, I'm looking at the article again and it conveniently omits the fact that two dead events (Thornberry and IWIT) are being replaced by two new events in Florida in 2020 ... heck, I thought the lousy-playing Yanks were scaring off US-based sponsors. My gosh, Whan is the Charlie Hustle of commissioners ... he doesn't get enough credit .... one year after another, making chicken salad out of chicken you-know-what.

Giving credit where it's due: AP dinosaur Doug Ferguson is covering the fight for cards at the LPGA event in Texas:
I don't know if he is actually there or not ... he should be since he might get a chance to see grown women crying or gnashing their teeth on Sunday.
It would be nice if checked in on The Rocket, who has many fans. She is 96th on the CME list and 106th on the money list.

Read it. Thank you. Way to go, Doug! For the record I like Bamberger. It's not so much the articles, they have to answer to The Man and that means sniffin jocks. But these guys will all write 100's junk tweets before making it clear they are watching the ladies. They don't know what strings to pull when it comes to writing an article anyway.

I think Bamberger is the guy who shows up from time to time on Morning Drive and has a brief five - ten minute segment. He ALWAYS talks about the PGA. Never once has he mentioned the women that I can recall. The only dad I've seen recently was Youngin Chun's caddy/daddy, but Youngin is just 18 so you wouldn't expect her to be on her own. And the guy is a golf commentator with a fair amount of golf knowledge, not just some weekend hacker. For obvious reasons, Lucky Six's dad is not on site with her or involved in her golf. Didn't notice Jin Young having a parent present. In general, I think it's rare for the Sisters to have a dad along.

Oh, and Jon Rahm freaked out again (video at GC website) ... and morose Cupcake shot his mouth off again ... Bio Kim might be welcomed change. While kicking around the stats pile I noticed that Bi-o has been playing fairly regularly since turning pro in 2010 at the age of 19. He won both the Korean and Japanese amateur championships in 2008. I couldn't find a long enough break that could have been filled by the customary stint in the military, and this bit from his still-active page on the Korn Ferry Tour website may explain why:That may have earned him a medical deferment from the Military Manpower Administration, because now that he's 29 he's a year past the point when they start insisting on an enlistment date.
https://www.instagram.com/p/B3OdQa4ACHP
In the run up to this week's PGA Tour stop in Vegas, Bi-o's hyung Kevin Na (left in above IG post with Phickleson), who's currently tied for the lead at the halfway mark, expressed incredulity about the situation, especially given that Bi-o's wife is pregnant with their first child. By being scrubbed from the top of the KPGA money list Bi-o loses a chance to earn an exemption into the CJ Cup on Jeju later this month as well as earning a European Tour card.www.golfchannel.com/news/kevin-na-bio-kims-suspension-three-years-ridiculoushttps://www.instagram.com/p/B3OdhMmgGoa https://www.instagram.com/p/B3L7p_1ANfo He's revealed to ESPN's Michael Collins that he won't be appealing his fine and suspension since he feels that by doing so it would make his apology insincere. If he and his friends on the PGA Tour are wondering about his chances of playing there he presently isn't eligible pending their own review.www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/27758901/bio-kim-apologizes-obscene-gesture-appeal-three-year-banKevin

Enough with the flogging, and the self-flogging IMO. I knew of this guy previously as a friend of So Yeon Ryu, and I highly doubt she associates with people of low character.
