Congratulations to two Duke teammates Megan Furtney and Erica Shephard who won the Four Ball Championship.
You may remember Erica Shephard when she won a U.S. Junior si-mi final match against Elizabeth Moon. On the first playoff hole they both had birdie putts. Erica Shephard missed her birdie putt. Elizabeth Moon missed her putt and had a one foot putt for par. She then picked the par putt up thinking it was conceded. But Erica said that I didn't give you that, so Moon lost the hole and Match. Erica said later that she would have given it to her, but she picked it up too fast.

Of course I didn't see any of this, but the final result only reinforces my opinion that Erica Shepherd is the second best woman amateur I've ever seen in person. Hye Jin Choi is still #1, but that might change if I attend next month's Polo Junior and she blows me away again...top-notch field will include Li, Pano and Heck.
If all the pieces fall into place in the next few years, she will take over the Golf Industrial Complex's Blonde Goddess throne from the Pink One...forget about the Kordas (they overshadow each other) and forget about Lexi (way too much drama) and forget about the ECP (just a foreign surrogate blonde). A smart cookie on the JLPGA should invite her and M. Furtney to a JLPGA event (similar to K. Gillman and Sierra Brooks getting an invite in 2018).
I am concerned that she is so gung-ho about playing at Duke...already has herself in the graduating class of 2023 on IG. Four years is a long time to keep your edge razor sharp and I've never envisioned college golf as the ideal place for doing that. If bad golf is contagious, I hope she doesn't become buddy-buddy with Hannah O'Sullivan.
I'm not familiar with Megan Furtney and had no idea she is also an incoming freshman at Duke with Shepherd. Poor Hannah O., she'll never get off the bench next season.

Probably the reason that you haven't heard about Megan Furtney. Because her WAGR is 932. Erica's is fifty three.
Their two opponents WAGR were Jillian Bourdage 856 and Casey Weidenfeld was 1670.

I don’t root against her but it’s inevitable. Duke and everything. Smh. She’s going to be a star.

Interesting that they played only 18 holes in the final, unlike the usual 36 holes in other USGA match play finals. Team Duke never trailed and won 3 & 2.
Actually, Shepherd was ranked #53 last week...she is #58 this week!!! Heck, she was #110 at Echo Lake last year! The WAGR statistical formula is completely objective...and completely misleading. You gotta see these players in person to see who is really exceptional and Blonde FIGJAM is that.
BTW, the team of Faith Choi and Aneka Seumanutafa were the low medalist team during the qualifying round. Aneka is the Buckeye who I saw blast it 284 at Forsgate CC last week...so what happens to this team? They get knocked out in the first round.

Faith Choi and Aneka shot minus twelve the first qualifying round.
