I watched the beginning of the broadcast intermittently for an hour and went to bed. I’m curious to know how the 2015 SBS Golf ratings compare to 2014. If they are down, I’m not surprised because what I saw was DEADLY DULL. Most of it is due to this year’s winners…Flying Dumbo, MSK5, BKK, JY Ko...they do nothing for me. YK Heo took the week off and Ji Hee Kim fell off her first round pace. Only one of my favorites, Jung Min Lee, was getting any airtime and I knew she wasn’t going to win. I set the alarm to wake up for the JLPGA broadcast, which was a lot more interesting. The KLPGA needs Sharon back in action desperately and they need to stop Soo Jin Yang from flying to Japan, which is where she played this week. On top of that, this tour had a massive talent drain during the off-season (SY Kim, The Hulk, Sky Kim, Q Baek, HJ Kim) and it really shows. The one bright spot is the new Peanut, Hye Youn Kim. She finished 4th and has four top-elevens in five starts this season. She finished her round with three “garbage time” birdies. I wonder if the SBS Golf replay will show any of them.

Yes...the KLPGA need Sharon & Sky to return. I'm disappointed Dumbo didn't challenge for the win.
I loved seeing some pros climb the rock cliffs to hit a shot...that's dangerous.
The KLPGA should ban caddies from using a push cart....it's lame.....does the JLPGA allow them too?

Amazing how one hole can change everything. In Gee three putts for bogey and Min Sun makes birdie. Min Sun putter stays hot and In Gee can't make anything. After In Gee missed the birdie on fifteen, I knew it was over.
One thing I noticed about Min Sun is that she is a long driver of the ball. Her iron play is good and she can putt. We may be seeing a future star on the KLPGA Tour.

Round 3: Min Sun Kim Blitzes Field For WinIn Gee Chun led the tournament for two and a half rounds. But on the back nine, Min Sun Kim caught fire, notching four straight birdies starting at hole 10. She wound up with a 64, tying the course record set earlier in the week by Chun. It was still a runner-up finish for Chun, but she has to be a little disappointed. Although her even par 72 was one of the worst final day scores in the top twenty, she would have required a really great score to beat Kim. And she still got 2nd place, her third top two finish of the year. For Kim, it is her second career win, and the first time she won outright (her previous win came in a playoff). Congratulations to her! Scores: 1. Min Sun Kim 5 64 -18 2. In Gee Chun 73 -12 3. Bo Kyung Kim 68 -11 4. Hye Youn Kim 69 -10 5. Chae Young Yoon 68, Hye Jin Kim 69, So Yi Kim 67, Ji Hyun Kim 2 72, Jung Min Lee 70 -9 Notables: 10. Jin Young Ko 72, Chae Eun Jung 71 -8 15. Da Na Kim 71 -7 17. Char Young Kim 70 -6 20. Ji Hee Kim 71, Ran Hong 73, Seung Hyun Lee 70, Han Sul Ji (R) 71 -5 27. Shi Hyun Ahn 70 -4 41. Jin Joo Hong 71, Ji Hyun Oh 73 -2 Round 3 pix Min Sun Kim Min Sun has a nice sized fan club rooting her on! Celebrate! Min Sun Kim 5's win enabled her to jump 14 places to #37 in this week's Rolex Rankings, qualifying her for a spot in the US Women's Open. I'll update that thread soon.

Well, on the one hand, it wouldn't surprise me to see that the KLPGA's rating are suffering a little compared to last year. After all, they lost FIVE big stars in one season; that is bound to have an effect. Imagine the PGA losing five of its top ten players, including its #1, and how its ratings would look as a result. Then again, let's not confuse your personal interest in the tour with popularity in the Korean market. You might love Hye Youn Kim, but she is not the engine that drives tour ratings over there (nor is Shin Ae Ahn, to be frank). I'll confess to being a major In Gee Chun fan; I absolutely get why she is so popular, and make no mistake, she is very popular over there (huge fan club membership, and gaining more fans all the time). Yoon Kyung Heo, Jung Min Lee, Min Sun Kim and Jin Young Ko all have dedicated fan clubs as well. Even a second tier player like Ji Hee Kim has her ardent supporters. I don't get any sense that the popularity of the tour is significantly waning, but even if it does, it will probably still be a very robust women's tour by most standards. There have been times when I haven't been that interested in the KLPGA, too. I recall in 2010 how Hee Kyung Seo, Ha Neul Kim and So Yeon Ryu were all slumping all year, and most of the events were won by no-names. I found that pretty boring to be honest. But sooner or later a great player or two comes along to reignite your interest, or the players you love step it up. Might happen again.

I'll start becoming interested in the KLPGA again if Gyeol Park starts becoming a contender and Shi Hyun Ahn starts playing better. Unfortunately, think the KLPGA is going to lost In Gee to the LPGA next season, and that's the problem with some of these Tours - the moment they build a star, they lose them.

HappyFan: Here are the wins and top-10s, respectively, for a few of the 2010 KLPGA gate crashers: Jung Min Lee – 1, 4 Hye Youn Kim – 1, 8 Shin Ae Ahn – 2, 8 Soo Jin Yang – 2, 13 Bo Mee Lee – 3, 15 You take 2015 and I’ll take 2010. Where is Mr. Peabody’s Wayback Machine? I’m ready to jump in right now. Centurion: Japan is different. The crazy money and never-ending schedule of the JLPGA is a two-way magnet...it brings in the best from Korea and it prevents almost all of the domestic talent from going to the USA. Just remembered something funny...during the ANA broadcast, they were going over some LPGA history and mentioned the name Ji Yai Shin. Annika jumped in, "yeah, where is she anyway?" Of course, the Olympic golf lunacy is a factor. Going to the LPGA is working out well for SY Kim and Hana Jang, but Q Baek might end up regretting it.

Ae Ree Pyun, Bo Bae Kim, Soo Hwa Jang, Jung Eun Lee, Young Ae Ham, Hee Kyung Bae, Hyun Ji Kim -- all these golfers had more wins than Ryu, Ha Neul Kim or Hee Kyung Seo in 2010. (by my count, 9 of 22 wins that year were by such players). Compare that to last year, where literally no events were won by obscure golfers, or this year, where not a single event so far has been won by a first time winner... I'll stick with In Gee and 2015.
