It's been a while since In Gee is within 2 strokes of the lead after the first round; a step in the right direction.
She continues to struggle with GIR, but putting has been solid from the beginning of the season.

Round 1 That was a lot of fun to watch! One nice thing about the limited field Asian events is that they aren't as locked in to showing the same old five players every time, so you actually get to see the Sisters. Today most of the top Sisters played pretty decently. Nice start for Inbee, her first real solo round of competitive golf since the KB Star Championship in October. She made a few silly mistakes, but her putting and short game seem solid. It's so great to see her back. Now we just have to get IK playing again. In Gee and Jeong Eun Lee 6 had nice starts, and Jin Young was on the leaderboard most of the day. Sung Hyun actually seemed kind of moribund, but her length allowed her an eagle bomb towards the end of her round, and even with a bad bogey on the last, she's only one back. Minjee also seemed not her best but is still tied for the lead thanks to yet another pitch-in (I swear, she hits more of those than anyone in the league). She is playing like a #3 in the world right now. Other than Amy and Sei Young dropping out, the only bummer was So Yeon and her struggles. But, they did give her a chance to talk on the broadcast, which was neat. She still needs to kick the rust off a bit more, but she has three more rounds to see if she can do it. Sisters Hwaiting!!! Minjee Lee Sung Hyun Park Color coordinated umbrella? Inbee Park Jin Young Ko In Gee Chun -- good thing she didn't eat those lizards! Lucky 6 So Yeon Ryu Mi Hyang Lee Hyo Joo going blonde? Chella Choi Su Oh Jenny Shin Sick List: Sei Young Kim Amy Yang Local fauna

She continues to struggle with GIR, but putting has been solid from the beginning of the season. But her driving distance continues to be a worry. Right now she is fourth from worst in the entire league. I looked it up, and here were her stats in previous seasons: 2016: 253.75, 53rd 2017: 252.17, 79th 2018: 243.76, 146th That is a huge drop in driving distance. I have a hard time believing it's the injury from the suitcase; that happened early in 2016, and it didn't seem to affect her much for the next two years. In 2018, she was 8th in the league in putting and 22nd in GIR. So despite hitting longer clubs into the greens, she's still hitting a lot of greens, and her short game is still world class. I'm hoping that they are working on this, because I feel like if she can even get back to where she was two years ago in driving distance, it could cure all her ills. If she actually improves her distance, like So Yeon did two years ago, we could see her really shine.

Once you experience the broader offerings of life you really have to love golf and competing to maintain the focus. In Gee strike me as someone who's playing not to lose vs playing to win, if that makes sense. That said she just won a huge event last fall.

I am getting a little worried about So Yeon start this year. It's early but her transition timing is off. She is hitting too many hook shots, also had a few flared drives. I had gotten so used to her driving and iron play being really solid. I did say a little worried and expect her to fix it.
Nice start for Jin Young, Jeong Eun6, In Gee and others.
The HSBC calls themselves the Asia Major. They sure set up the course like a Major. It's about time that a course is set up to challenge these great golfers. Instead of how many putts that I can make. You also have to hit quality shots to score.

SoYeonFanDo you think So Yeon is in love? She may not pay the same attention to golf as before.

don It's easy for In Gee to feel complacent; she's played Olympics, won majors and International Crown. She's had all the adoration and sponsorship. We'll see, she may decide to walk away after 2020 Olympics whether she qualifies or not.

donI don't think In Gee has ever reached the height of Yani and Lydia in golf achievement; but she compensated that with enormous love from her fans and an immense treasury chest from her endorsements.

Jenny Shin is going to have a year. If she could win a few times she has the ability to finally be the breakthrough Korean among American fans. She can be funny, speaks English with a SoCal accent, gives a great interview, spills her heart out on IG and on-course she wears her emotions on her sleeve. What more could anyone want?

jumpcutJTIBS is also pretty. Thanks fellow; you've mentioned Hulu before and I decided to give it a try and what a revelation! The savings from regular cable providers is more than $200.0 a month and it's much easier to stream.

It seems like the women's game, and really all sports, have skewed younger. Is it partly because as you mature as a player you develop bad habits, and maybe overthink the game? Inbee Park and SYR are the only two players in the Rolex top 10 that are over the age of 25.

While definitely not a fan, I feel concern for Michelle. Don't know if the hand injury is related but she was also describing arthritis problems in both wrists early last year. She seems to be locked into a cycle of injury and recovery and each time there is also an accompanying swing change. She is only 30 but then again she has been putting herself through the wringer since age 12/13. Recently her talk has been about staying pain-free--eating, working out, resting, swinging all geared towards reducing pain. None of this sounds remotely promising for the future of her LPGA career. I have been always been a Michelle skeptic but by now I am at least convinced that she really does enjoy golf. I think she's still dealing with the fallout from her auto accident. www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/39115059
