It seems that the carryover into the next day forced a ton of players to quit after one round...mostly bad scores so I guess they didn't care. However, the lowest score among the "quitters" was 74 by Christine Song. Why? She definitely had a shot to qualify with a better second round. Her Symetra tour event in Georgia starts on Thursday, so she still had time to get there, right? Maybe she would have been punished for missing the pro-am.

Here's the online leaderboard (above) for the last USWO qualifier today...several decent players here. I had MJ Hur in this field originally, but I guess she dropped out?

Alfie's win at Pine Needles earned her a free pass to the USWO in Charleston...if she chooses to take it...I think she'd get killed. Her 236.26 driving distance avg. was first among the oldsters.
The guy above is husband Kent Nilsson....in 2006, Alfie carried his bag during European Senior Tour q-school in Portugal
Out of necessity, Kent kept himself in better shape back in the '70s.

The USGA has 150 players in the field and at least a half-dozen are 1st alternates (best known is Hina Arakaki). They need to fill six more spots...aside from other 1st alternates, the winner at Kingsmill will get in (if not in already) and anyone in the Rolex Rankings top-50 as of May 27 will get (if not in already).

I'm guessing a win by Minami Katsu tomorrow will push her into the top-50 on the Rolex rankings ... she's currently 54th. She did not play in the Japan qualifier.

Well yeah, but would it be worth it to spend 15 hours going NRT-ATL, then a puddle jumper to CHS (all the while hoping your clubs are on the same itinerary), all right after another tournament, to have at most 1.5 days to familiarize yourself with a course you've never played before? I kinda doubt she'd be up for that grind, even for a major.Kevin

She may had the same thoughts as she is in the next JLPGA field (May 31 - June 2)...of course, she could drop out if she wants.
UPDATE: The USGA released the USWO groupings today and Hina Arakaki will attempt to run the gauntlet described above. At least they put her with Yokomine and Suzuki, so she won't feel completely lost.
