Nice article -and interesting insight into the struggle that pro golf can be. We fans love to read players’ Instagram, tweets, Facebook - but it sure can be a negative for a sensitive player. I hope InGee stays off reading any of the social media for quite awhile.

I am a big In Gee fan but I am unmoved by her struggles with fame. I don't buy into the whole story, that she's just some pure, innocent naif trying to quietly go about her business in life. Maybe she started out that way, but she really ought to be savvier by now IMO. Each of the logos she wears represents a fairly big business deal. That is to say she is not some humanitarian, her stock in trade is pro athlete and corporate pitchwoman. Besides that, what she faces has got to be quite similar to that which every other ascendent K-golf star faces. The main difference being in In Gee's case, she is way more beloved. Boo hoo.

You need to read up more on Korean social media. There are Korean actresses who have *committed suicide* because of relentless online haters over there. Social media is far more pervasive for everyone over there.
If you interpret what In Gee is talking about as a few people saying she needs to hit the range more often, I think you are missing the point IMO.

That's a little harsh unless you experienced it yourself. Also unless you know the whole story. There is a lot of other issues that they deal with other than money. |

Personally, I don't think I would enjoy going to a job each day if I were getting relentlessly criticized for everything I did (or they imagined I did), no matter how much money I got. Let alone if they were dissing my relatives as well. Add to that the fact that it's all in the public for all to see. Yeesh.

I wonder if people realize how mentally tough it is for Korean golfers.
Especially for the ones that win a LPGA tournament and have to decide right away to join.
They probably haven't prepared for coming over so soon.
I will use Jin Young Ko as an example.
I first met her at the ANA when she was still a KLPGA player.
There was a rain delay of about an hour and a half.
I saw her with her Manager and caddie practicing her short game.
She must have practiced about for an hour, because she had no one to hang out with.
I went over and told Dean to tell her that she was my favorite KLPGA player.
She really appreciated it and thanked me.
Not to mention that she had to get use to hardly anyone following and cheering for her.
It got so bad that she almost quit the Tour.
So Yeon was different.
Her intentions were to come to the LPGA tour.
When she turned professional.
She prepared herself by playing here on the mini Cactus tour.
At the same time learned English and about the culture.
Not to mention she travels with her Mom and sometimes with her sweet sister.
So before people decide to criticize these golfers, as they say "walk a mile in their shoes."

I didn't criticize anyone. Just stated that I don't buy into the narrative. I am not doubting the existence of In Gee's pain but rather just arguing that it is kind of pain shared by many.
