Paula Creamer got what she asked for but she isn't qualified to play Chairman Fred Ridley Announces Augusta National Women’s Amateur Championship www.masters.com/en_US/news/articles/2018-04-04/2018-04-04_chairman_fred_ridley_announces_augusta_national_womens_amateur_championship.html?promo=hero_articles_Women%E2%80%99sAmateurChampionshipAnnouncedThe 54-hole, stroke play tournament will feature an international field of 72 players. Fred just completed his presser. He said the new event wasn't trying to compete against the ANA the same week, which also has many amateurs....NOT ANYMORE! This might be good news for the ANA...they should get rid of almost all the amateur spots and give them to more foreign Asian pros. I assume they'll play from the member tees at 6,365 yards.

This is a big shot in the arm for women’s golf; it’ll shine spotlights on women’s golf like never before.
The Masters brand will entice more American companies to sponsor women’s golf; leading to bigger purses for the pros.

Gotta give credit where credit is due.
15 years ago, Martha Burke was protesting ANGC for having ZERO female members.
6 years ago, Condoleeza Rice and Darla Moore were admitted as the first female ANGC members.
1 year from now, 30 female amateurs will compete at ANGC.
####
So I guess this signals the end of the ANA Jr. Inspiration?
The ANWAC field will be based on the WWAGR Top 72 and as of now, juniors Rose Zhang, Lucy Li, and Atthaya Titikul would be invited.

Wait a minute -- will this be the same day as the final round of the ANA? If so, why are the LPGA pros so excited about the Masters cutting into the final day of their first Major? You realize this will dilute the attention that event gets even more than the Masters already dilutes it (with the drive chip and whatever thing which also cuts into ANA coverage, not to mention that once Masters week starts all talk about the ANA results from the previous day instantly ends)?
Why is it the Masters people allow girls to have a competition there, allow women ams to have one there, but don't allow women pros? It almost seems like they have something against the LPGA. "You females can play there until you make a living as a golfer, then you can't". I would MUCH rather have an LPGA event there than this.
I guess I'm the only person who feels this way?

HF, the Augusta Women's Am finals (with only 30 players) will be on Saturday. The first two rounds will be on a different course on Thursday & Friday. I don't think it will take away that much from the ANA. This women's am is a minimal commitment for ANGC.
Of course, I'd prefer to see the best women pros play there, but ANGC has a very short playing season for its members, so one assumes they don't want to cut into that more with another significant tournament.

That's even worse. So now at least some of the golf media get an excuse to go to the Masters a day earlier, and the ANA gets even less coverage? The way things are going, the Masters is going to end up taking up two weeks with a mini golf competition, a long drive competition, and Golden Tee national finals!

You are not the only person that feels that way. Now I guess the week that the ANA is played. The Golf channel will televise "Live At The Master's Amateur. I really don't se how it is helping the LPGA. Anyway to me the Masters is just an over hyped golf tournament. Of the PGA, I think the Players Championship is better.

I wonder if ANA has an "out" clause in that contract extension they just signed with the LPGA. BTW, unless you have a child participating in it, what real golf fan would watch the Drive, Chip & Putt over the ANA?

The problem is that the Drive and what have you is branded by the Masters, which automatically gets it covered. It is shown on Golf Channel, when they could be having 'Sunday at the ANA' or actual coverage. It gets repeat showings, too, which could be taken up by ANA repeats.
Imagine a world where the morning of the final round of a men's Major, Golf Channel was showing a kids golf skills competition...

It's like buying a bunch of shares on a stocks a few days before that stock more than doubled overnight.

Remember, rising water lifts all boats. There're short term technical issues. But longer term, women's golf will be bigger and have more shares of mind. Augusta will help produce more Tiger Woods and Michelle Wie; fans and sponsor's money will follow the stars.
