I hate to mention this, but I will. In the interview Inbee said that her putts weren't dropping. The only reason your putts don't drop is because you didn't put them in the hole. I hate to hear golfers make that statement. It sounds like an excuse for not scoring better. Sure you can get good breaks and bad breaks on putts. Bottom line is, it is what it is, you either make putts or not.

I find it to be a fair statement. But don't worry about the two-time year end no.1. Her putter will get hot again. She's a very bright golfer who can contend on any golf course in the world.

Gotta say, I didn't see that one coming. Is So Yeon Ryu learning how to close out tournaments?! If she is, watch out. It's the only thing that kept her from reaching her full potential. She was in a very comfortable position to start the fourth round. Coming off an eight-under on moving day, it was inevitable. It will be interesting to see how they perform in California after taking a week off from competition. I can see one of these two BFFs winning in Rancho Mirage.

In response to an earlier quote:
There is no question the Koreans don't care for Lydia Ko. Perhaps they view her as a traitor. In any event, the ANA Shore will help sort things out but the US Open will settle who is really number one.

CAT FIGHT!!!!
Wow, that quote is from the LET news article. Clearly, it was from the heart, not the head. One wonders if SYR has some claws behind her smile. I still remember watching her group for three holes at the 2013 USWO...she was buddy-buddy with C. Kerr and seemed to ignore JY Shin.
SoYeonFan:
I'm giving IBP a pass on this. Most pro golfers give cliché answers for good rounds and bad rounds.

Most pro golfers give cliché answers for good rounds and bad rounds. I don't think Inbee was making excuses, just trying to clarify what wasn't working for her game. Seems like lately she has been superlative tee to green, but often she doesn't make as many of those shortish to mid-length putts as she does when she's really on. So she was saying that was the problem again, rather than that her long game, say, was not working. As for the Ryu quote about the true #1: I don't think this is meant as a diss to Lydia. I've already seen some commenters theorizing that she hates Ko because she lost to her at the Farr or some such nonsense. I seem to recall when Inbee became #1 the first time, it took quite a while before people were willing to accept her as the top golfer ("she took over Stacy's #1 in an off week! What a gyp!"). In fact, I think Ko has gotten credit for earning that ranking much more quickly than Inbee did. Personally, I didn't stop thinking of Inbee as the super-consistent golfer who can't win until she nabbed her second Major in 2013. At that point I really began to see her as the #1 golfer in the world. That was several months after she had gained the ranking IIRC.

Hmmm....expect to see a slander suit against SYR from The Dragon Lady. That crazy women is up to her tricks again.....she said she had no idea of the origin of two $50,000 deposits into her bank account.....lol. www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=11415767"These discussions established a way of transferring the funds from KDB to Lydia Ko's parents without the payments becoming public knowledge." But Ko's parents last night distanced themselves, saying they had no knowledge of, or influence over, the internal actions of the bank or charity. On September 25, 2012, five million Korean won ($53,931.35) was electronically deposited by the bank into the society's Auckland bank account. The next day, $53,962.39 was withdrawn and electronically transferred to the personal bank account of Bangsuk Hyon, Ko's mother. A second transaction was made on March 28, 2013, when $53,787.94 was transferred from the bank to the society, and a few days later a cheque for the same amount was written for Ko's mother and transferred into her account.

Really???.....maybe SYR was simply chatting with Ms. Congeniality to learn how to bark at her ball with proper English.

I followed them twice at the Kraft Nabisco and they seemed to like each other. I have seen a lot of Kerr on tour. From what I have seen is that she really grinds out there, which is a positive to me. Jy Shin does not talk a lot to other players any way. She focuses completely on her game.

I think you are taking this quote too seriously... Keep in mind that English is not Ryu's first language. I think she was saying something to the effect that 'I think Inbee is the best player in the world', with no implied diss on anyone else. It's a positive statement of appreciation for her friend's talent. Everyone is entitled to her opinion, right? If there isn't a truly dominant #1 (and there isn't and hasn't been for sometime), but you have a situation where that spot has changed hands several times (which it has), it seems perfectly legit to believe one of those three is the best, no matter the current ranking order. You can read a diss into it, but I certainly don't hear one.

As I said in the post, I honestly don't think Ryu intentionally tried to diss Ko, but it still just doesn't sit right with me. If someone would have made a similar statement while Inbee was number one, we would have roasted them, and rightfully so. It's find for Ryu to be supportive of her friend, but I think it adds too much pressure on Inbee. No, I don't think Ryu's comment had anything to do with Ko in particular, but there are going to be a lot who won't read it that way.

Whether SYR's English is perfect or not....it's how SYR feels.....but ultimately it doesn't matter how we internet surfers feel or interpret the quote...it's the Golf God's opinions that count. Let's see how the Golf Gods influence SYR & Inbee's performance/results in the next few months.
I guess Lydia won't be calling SYR, 'Unni", anytime soon....lol. And as retaliation....The Dragon Lady will figure out some way to get SYR & Inbee's caddies fired.
Nothing better than some K Drama....the Yanks shouldn't monopolize all the tour's cattiness.

Nothing better than some K Drama....the Yanks shouldn't monopolize all the tour's cattiness. Personally, I don't read cattiness there. I don't think Ryu and Ko have any problem with each other, before or now. And when you have a situation where the #1 ranking can so easily change hands, I don't have a problem with someone saying one of those others is the true #1, even if that had meant Inbee was getting 'dissed' (but if they tried to pawn someone like Cheyenne Woods or Creamer off as the top gun, yeah, then I'd be a little peeved!). When Inbee was reeling off Major after Major, however... yeah, back then there was no contest!
