Not a great finish by So Yeon.
A little of the So Yeon of bygone days creeped in.
A good front nine and bad back nine, making bogey on four of the last six holes.
That after having a promising front nine of three under par.
All she can do is move on and forget it like she did the missed cut.

Round 3 A mixture of good and bad today. On the plus side, there are a lot of Koreans on this leaderboard who still have a chance to win Chella Choi, Danielle, Amy and Sei Young are all Sisters who have the talent to win Majors but haven't done it yet. Amy in particular is very overdue, but she is four back and faces a tall order to pull it off tomorrow. Chella and Danielle are tied for the lead, but neither has really been that convincing in a Major before. It would feel weird to see one of them get the Major victory before Yang, but is certainly possible. Go Sisters. Hwaiting! Happy Fan, I'm curious how you determine which players are "Sisters". I think in the past you haven't included players like Michelle and Lydia, yet you list American Danielle Kang as a Sister. (Not an issue-just wondering). Lydia and Michelle are Sisters -- they have bios on the seoulsisters.com website. They just aren't players I like all that much, so I tend not to mention them in my reviews. I do like Kang, though.

Nice HIT PIECE on Chella Choi by GC Mell. Mell has actually been consistent, along w/ Brandel Chamble,e he's been one of the few GC employees that has been a pain in Lexi's butt for cheating. Chella comes off better than Lexi here tho, she actually admits she needs to be more careful. It's still in VERY POOR TASTE to ask Chella about this on the eve of trying to win her first major. Truly disguising IMO but I'm not a "journalist" so I don't know about drumming up clicks, I mean doing quality, ethical reporting. www.golfchannel.com/news/golf-central-blog/choi-poised-major-sunday-scrutiny-after-rules-controversy I hadn't seen that, but I think Chella comes off very well in her response, while throwing a back handed zinger at Thompson. The only thing I have asked of Thompson is that she fess up to what she did and say she would do better next time and that the punishment fit the crime. Instead, she has chosen to play the victim and throw the tour under the bus, which IMO is not very classy. Has she to this day admitted she was wrong and the tour was right? PS - I call BS on the idea that Choi's transgression was more obvious than Thompson's. Malarkey! That one line suggests Mell had ulterior motives for bringing this up (ie, to show the difference between 'victim' Thompson and actual rule breaker Choi. Congrats again to Chella for directly tackling the question).

I am looking at a top 5 full of Sisters...and Brooke...aw crap, I can almost sense how this is going to turn out. Nothing against Brooke, I like her...but pulling for Danielle or Chella 100%. I'll bite the bullet and take a Brooke win for what it means for women's golf. You may need to disinfect your keyboard after typing that line!

At Manulife, Thompson was in control, then the old 'can't buy a short putt' Lexi crept back in for a surprise visit. Now, with So Yeon cruising at the KPMG, along came the So Yeon who becomes timid when things get on the line. Those things happen. I think her massive season and hot form will resume soon enough.

Great to see besties happy for one another. ...and how about all the celebs tweeting during Danielle's back 9...cool stuff!Who Jon Lovits? At least he actually brought a few eyeballs to the event. The great one and DJ couldn't tweet anything out to their millions of followers about the women's golf tourney. The GIC is eating it up tho.

Round 4 Congrats to Danielle on her win. She has always had this in her, and it was great to see her step up to the plate and deliver, especially when it meant taking down Henderson. Having said that, I feel like in some ways she hasn't paid her dues enough to have a Major. Amazingly, she had never even produced a top ten before this week in a Major, and has only a handful of times she has really been in contention before. Contrast that with poor old Amy Yang, who has been so close so often. Close again this week, but once again the bridesmaid... Great week for the Sisters, with five in the top ten, but it was a bit of a painful ending that none of them except Mi Hyang and Inbee made a good run at the end, and they were too far back to have a real chance. Especially brutal that Jiyai, So Yeon and In Gee struggled. So Yeon had a good chance for a top five, but let it totally fall away in the last few holes. At least she should be maintaining her #1 status for now unless I miss my guess. Chella did OK under the spotlight, even if it wasn't enough in the end. But it's all about Danielle and how she flourished in the tough final few holes. Congrats again to her! PS: Right now, in the top ten sports stories in Korea, we have: 2 Danielle Kang 3 Michelle Wie (not sure why) 6 Hye Jin Choi (won KLPGA event this week) 9 Chella Choi So Yeon Ryu -- still a good week for her, but t-14th is amazingly her worst Major since 2015!

A feel-good story with Danielle Kang winning. I follow her on Twitter and she does always keep her late father on her mind.
In spite of not playing her best, Brooke still almost won this thing. I look forward to seeing her play in Portland.
The broadcasters pointed out how JLPGA tournaments are three rounds long and thus speculated Jiyai may have run out of gas today.
Kelly Shon gets a top ten. Her best finish this season was T35 just last week.

Great win by Dani and what a fantastic putting session down the stretch. There is no way that the Golf IC can keep her off the U.S. Solheim team this year. Better and better...I hope MHL doesn't lose her edge during the off-week. ******* Did I hear the broadcasters right when they said JY Shin hadn't played a four-round tournament since the 2016 British Open, or something like that? That can't be right. Yes, most but NOT all JLPGA events are three-rounders, but those goofs implied that ALL of them were three-rounders.

I was worried the golf nihilist Wiesy was a bad influence in D. Kang. Maybe I was wrong.

Maybe the 4 rounds knocked the air out of Jiyai...or maybe the 4 rounds plus the travel...I always worried back then when she was flying all around to play different tours/events that it would mentally burn her out. Maybe 4 rounds plus the long plane trip and different time zone wore her out. ...or maybe she just had an off round like golfers do from time to time...

Keeps it mind that driving distance is measured only only two holes. If all player mishits a drive, their numbers can look pretty bad. Args, How have the crowds been? I heard south side isn't the best place to draw a big crowd. The crowds on Friday were OK. I think the threat of storms kept some people away. The weekend crowds looked decent. The northern suburbs of Chicago are generally considered more golf friendly. However, the Olympia Fields and nearby Flossmor areas are fairly affluent suburbs. They're home of Olympia Fields CC and Flossmor CC. The course was in a decent area, and fairly accessible from the interstate. I believe the crowds will be bigger next year at Kemper Lakes.

As a veteran observer of Dani at the Shop-Rite/Acer (and inside Shop-Rite), I would love to see her win. I was not aware until this week that her coach is David Leadbetter. However, I was delighted to hear on the broadcast that she was giving his instruction a lot of push-back this week. It's also good that her golf pro brother Alex is in the mix...I looked him up, he is 54th on the web.com money list this year...he is not playing this week. Mell article on Kang: www.golfchannel.com/news/randall-mell/kang-trying-turn-valuable-advice-major-winIt includes this wonderful quote: “She probably argues with me more than any student I have,” Leadbetter said. “She questions me more than anyone.”No way her swing is a Deadletter swing. There's zero loop at the top.
