I don't know about your numbers, Jack never qualified to win the Vardon Trophy (minimum of 60 rounds) because he didn't play enough PGA tournaments.
The minimum of 60 rounds wasn't put in place until 1988. At that point Jack had dialed back his schedule. From 1980 to 1987 the minimum was 80 rounds, and again, with a reduced schedule, he wouldn't have qualified. Jack didn't win it in the 60's because Arnold and Billy Casper were hogging it, and in the 70's it was Lee and Tom.
Thanks argonne69 ; the esteemed software engineer.
I know Jack would have won many Vardon Trophies in the 1970's but he didn't because he didn't play enough rounds. My mistake was I thought the minimum rounds was 60 but as you correctly pointed out it was higher than that before 1988.
But in any case; neither Jack, Tiger or Rory exhausted themselves by playing too many tournaments a year.
One more response. Jack came from money. I doubt Brooke Henderson came from as much. Anyway the LPGA players had never had the luxury to skip a lot of tournaments. Every since the beginning they have made peanuts compared to the PGA. I am not only talking about the top players. Compare the how much difference there is money wise between the top eighty PGA players and the LPGA players. Just because they are ladies doesn't make it right that they should make so much less. So if they think they have to play a lot to make a good living, I applaud them.
I do think Brooke played too many tournaments in 2016, though. Perhaps she was simply trying to check out as many courses as could, and then use the information to decide which tournaments to play in 2017 as part of a reduced schedule. It seems that 26 to 30 tournaments would be about right for the top players. One certainly has to balance earnings vs. health. She definitely looked worn out at the end of last season, which is no surprise given the number of tournaments she played and the international travel.
Canada's in big trouble and Whan doesn't care. With Hunter Harrison's departure....I suspect CP's sponsorship will end soon.....if they do find a CWO sponsor it might be lame and become a 3rd tier event like Portland. It will be interesting who steps up...if anyone does....to replace CP.
For selfish reasons, I'd like to see a Western Canada event with a rotation of Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary....but dump Priddis and find another venue. If Whan was smart, he'd call on Shaw and get them to dump their sponsorship of the Champion Tour event in Calgary and give the LPGA an above mentioned rotation....TELUS might also be a good company to for the Western rotation....though they could also be a good national sponsor as TELUS tries to gain more market share in the east.
The Entitled Cdn Princess better start winning more if she's to save Canada....otherwise Brooke will ask the GREAT Man for citizenship before the 2nd wall is built.
