Often for golf fans, like myself , is more than just watching great golf skills and pretty faces. We want to know the players on a certain level, to invest ourselves in the game. Stacy is a straight shooter, PC be damned. Kerr is a super bitch. Paula is a princess/mean girl. My future wife is an artist, a headcase. The wunderkind is a laid back Kiwi. Shanshan relishes to be the tour clown. I am sure the Koreans has all these types of characters as well, but unfortunately because of the language barrier , we don't get to see it. So sometimes when I look at the leader board, I see Korean flags and an homogeneous image. The mainstays are all flawed entertainers right now. All fine people and incredible golfers. I'm talking about the broadcast though. Stacy is downhearted. Paula is downcast. Wie is lost. Pettersen is grim. Lang is color coordinated. Gerina is crestfallen. Lexi is a little boring. What American golf needs is a great Solheim where Korda, Lee, Ernst, Kang and Park produce in staring roles and deliver in their interviews. I think the LPGA does a great job with the global tour. I'd like to see the international stars featured a little more in bits like Know your Player/Caddie and stuff tho. Or bring those that are able into the broadcast booth to talk about what it's like to grow up in asia and move to the states. So Yeon or Inbee would be perfect. Or Minjee or Su Oh. The biggest bottle neck is like Morning Drive or the highlight shows tho. They need to act like they are excited about all the players. Focusing on the aforementioned produces a downer show too often.

Why doesn't the Golf Channel quit worrying about who is on the LPGA Tour? Instead, get some multilingual reporters and commentators and enhance the current coverage.
The existing staff should be re-assigned to cover the progress of the Americans on the Symetra Tour and various college teams.

Why overcome it? Embrace it! Great golf, stylin' ladies, fan friendly... More you could ask? It's no fun watching Koreans beating up each other. Give me some white, brown and black players. (the later two may be just wishful thinking, in golf) I want to get to know the players, it is hard when they can only speak the language at 5 years old level. What do you think they have that instagram for? As someone who represents himself with Tom Abbott's image, you should be more in the loop IMO. For instance, it is because of Tom Abbott that I am aware that Korean LPGA player Hee Young Park is a big Chicago Blackhawks fan.

They either post very infrequently, or post exclusively in Korean. The exception to this, of course is SYR. I really appreciate her posting bilingually.

fourwaymissAre you saying you can't tell the differences between Ha Na and In Gee? I can tell the difference between their on course demeanor. Ha Ha is more exuberant, while Dumbo is calm and cool. They are both gracious to the crowd. But I know little about them as persons. What is their opinions on things.

If you ask me the real crux of the issue is that American girls and women don't really like golf, for whatever reason. Thanks a lot ladies. True dat. We played today in on and off rain and at a muck hole.....and this is one of the drier courses.....we've only have 3 days since Oct 1 where it has not rained...and El Nino is going to make things worse...WTF. Why am I playing in the rain....a Korean lady is going back to the mother land soon....she wanted to play.....no way any white women would play in this muck. So where do the Koreans play in NYC?

Not saying it's happen everywhere. Sometimes I see a person, I suppose is the coach, bring high school girl golfers to the driving range. Hardly any of them had a proper grip. 1) The coach just stood there watching them top balls.
I was so upset, that I told him that he was stealing money from the school. 2) He got angry and told me to go away and mind my own business.
There is one private High School here that wins everything in Ladies golf. The one that Hannah Sullivan attended. Other than that no other school come close. 1) Are you sure he is a coach? He may have simply been a chaperone with minimal or no golf knowledge. I know a gal on the University of Waterloo golf team...she said her coach was a volunteer and basically an administrator and sometimes only gave mental tips...she has never provided any swing coaching. 2) Love it....I wish I was there to witness this.....sounds like some good K-DRAMA!Are you Korean?

My wife played womens golf in high school and she doesn't know the difference between a pitch and a chip. Seriously. She was the captain of the team.Women's golf coaching is a joke except at the elite level. Granted that was 20 years ago. LMAO.
So what cap does you wife play to?...can she beat you? I thought you are an old fart...sound like your wife is 38 years old....are you some rich Sugar Daddy with a trophy arm candy wife?...if yes...you're my HERO.

The most popular Seattle Mariner for several years was Ichiro, who could not speak a word of English at the time. Darn fun to watch, though. English speaking skills are overrated. I guess if I wanted to watch them speak, I'd watch women's professional debating! And anyway, I relate more to In Gee's smile than a dissertation from Paula Creamer...

It is kind of inexcusable, given the Asian presence on tour, that Golf Channel does not have a single Asian or Asian American commentator. What's Pearl Sinn doing now? Would love to get Grace Park, although she's probably not going to leave Korea any time soon.

What the LPGA need to do is a team event and pair some american favorites with our korean favorites. Once "Lexi Fan" sees In Gee rolling in a bunch of putts for their team they will figure it out. So sometimes when I look at the leader board, I see Korean flags and an homogeneous image. I don't buy this. The criticism used to be: they are all robots out there, no emotion. Now that there are plenty of emotional Koreans, the problem is that their English language skills make them unrelatable? I feel like the Korean ladies are just as obvious types as the pop psychology descriptions you gave about the Americans. To wit: - So Yeon Ryu and Hee Young Park are bubbly - In Gee Chun has a lot of pressure on her, but seems to be having a great time win or lose. She grew up poor and had to work for everything she has. - Ha Na Jang has the best fist pump in the game. She finds a way to have a laugh, and it's contagious. - Sei Young Kim could break you in two and smile while doing it. - Amy Yang is nice (generous; gave an entire winner's check once to charity). Perhaps too nice: she's seems like the Charlie Brown of the Koreans sometimes. - Inbee Park is ruthless on the course. But she is in the midst of an epic love story with her coach/husband that has made her one of the greats of her generation. - IK Kim likes to play guitar, has taken cooking courses in France, can say she is hungry in about twenty different languages, is a rep for Special Olympics, and is super generous with her money. - NYC has worked really hard to engage with fans, making her recent struggles all the more poignant. No Korean has struggled more with the Korean press. And most of them speak English decently. Inbee, IK, Amy and NYC are pretty close to fluent. So Yeon is getting there. In Gee, Ha Na, Hee Young and Sei Young are all easily understandable and occasionally surprise (I think Sei Young used the word 'synergy' recently). I think they have what it takes to be liked by American fans; let's see the American press meet them halfway and give them some of the same treatment we see Henderson and other foreigners get.

The most popular Seattle Mariner for several years was Ichiro, who could not speak a word of English at the time. Darn fun to watch, though. English speaking skills are overrated. I like watching Hideki Matsuyama golf....he's a BEAST.....oh wait Ma.....he used an interpreter in his last interview...how shameful. I saw a game at Safeco Field back in 2001...my one and only time....sat in the right field bleachers....scalped tix for only $20 ......what a GORGEOUS ball park. In between innings....... a bunch of Japanese girls (likely from Japan) would run down to the railing and yell for Ichiro to try to get him to turn around. Mariners beat the Rockies 9-5....a few home runs were hit our way.

Would love to get Grace Park, although she's probably not going to leave Korea any time soon. In the early 90's at the Safeco Classic....an Asian all dressed in black...turtleneck and pants walks by...I say to my friend....who the heck is she?....look at my pairing sheet...Pearl Sinn...so we did some fanboying for a few holes. In 1994...my friend says....let's follow this Swede walking by...I say who is that?...my friend replies....Mannika. I guess most of my fanboying in those days evolved around Jan Stephenson....nuff said....ok...ok...I also discovered Jackie Gallagher Smith at the Safeco too. Yes...Grace would be great on GC. Let's not forget about Yani or Ai-Chan.

Look at all the reporters who want to interview her...oh look Ma....this event is in Canada....no hatred or racism in Canada against the Korean gals.
