Just got home and just learned of this.
This is such a SAD day. There will only be ONE....King. I unfortunately never met him in person nor saw him play.
Rest in Peace, Mr. Palmer.

A true gentleman. He is the reason I started playing golf. I had the pleasure to follow Arnold in the final 36 holes at the 67 U.S. Open at Baltusrol. Also got to see him play one more Open, a PGA, many rounds at Bay Hill all along with the Honda Classic (AKA The Jackie Gleason Inverrary Classic). He will be missed.

My dad is not a golfer, but he remembers seeing AP and Chi Chi at Upper Montclair CC (grandpa was a member there), probably in 1962. The Thunderbird Classic was played there in '62 and '66-'68. I saw AP once, the '92 Bell Atlantic Classic first round (Seniors tour) at Chester Valley GC (6608 yds)...shot 69, -1...not bad, he was 62 at the time. I didn't follow his round much (what was I thinking?), but I recall being downrange in the left rough watching his drive on a dogleg right hole...watched ex-49er John Brodie tee off at that hole, too. Don't know why I remember this (and I could be wrong)...AP's driver head seemed to be bigger-than-average light colored wood with a big solid red insert. I remember Arnold had is his own Palmer Peerless golf club brand. Some trivia...Palmer's -23 score at the '55 Canadian Open is still the tournament record. Mr3putt, is Weston Golf & CC a dog track?!

I didn't start following golf until Se Ri Pak, so Arnold Palmer to me has always been an old guy who looked somewhat frail. It's cool to see all these tributes showing what he was like when he was younger, as most of his highlights happened before I was born or when I was very young.
I've always appreciated that he and Gary Player take time out to send congratulations to the ladies when they win big tournaments. It had to be such a thrill to someone like In Gee Chun to get that recognition after her Open win. I wonder if the letter she got was the last one Palmer ever sent?
RIP Mr. Palmer.

PS - In Gee's posting of Palmer's letter on her twitter feed has gotten more likes than the posting of her Evian trophy photo!

I remember going to the 66 T-Bird. Not sure if Arnie was playing but do remember Chi Chi. He would put on a show on the practice range with all his trick shots.

Fitting Dumbo may have gotten AP's last letter, in a small way, because she has the best autograph signature in golf.
I can't any anything about Mr. Palmer that hasn't been said better by others millions of times today.

No, not a dog track...but like an old skool country club....at 6657 yds obsolete for the biggest bombers....but sloped very tough. It winds under a major highway...the 401....so does muni...Don Valley about 10 kms east. WGCC is very close to Toronto's Pearson Int'l airport. Although I had started to attend university....when my parents moved from Hamilton to Toronto....they bought a townhouse about 2 kms away from WGCC....they no longer live there. Like many .......except for the ultra exclusive clubs....Weston is doing trial memberships.

The KING is in a league of his own....you'll NEVER hear one story of him not acting/behaving like a TRUE gentleman.
I never appreciated the GREATNESS of Arnold as a kid....obviously I was snowed over by the Merry Mex's act....only to hear some stories nowadays that Trevino can be a big as*hat off the course.....would knows what to believe. I never idolize any athlete as a kid/teen....I was too busy fawning over Farrah Fawcett and Ann Margret.....lol.

I take back the bad things I've said about Sorenstam. Good eulogy. I have it recorded...will watch later assuming it didn't record short. So did you watch at work or on your phone via a GC stream?
