I read Corpuz is a Pinay. I hope she doesn't sell out to Japan like the Olympic Golf Club winner.

I followed Lee6 for 24 holes. Her dad was perfectly positioned for every shot. I was unable to keep up with him.

i was cheering for nasa but not to be.... she is still by far the best women player from japan...
NASA the best from Japan? I agree ... but "by far?" No way. I know Johnny Miller derides "top-tenism", but it's still a fair comparison tool for 2023:
NASA top-10s: Four
Furue top-10s: Seven
Team Japan had a strange week ... Yamashita and Ueda were out on the street Friday night ... meanwhile, Aya Kinoshita finished T-13, whoever that is ... I looked up her stuff on the JLPGA website, she has been AWFUL this year. Yuna has been a modest and consistent money maker this year, but bombed out, while minor leaguer Miyu Sato had a T-53.

Take that Lilia Vu former UCLA Bruin, former USC Trojan Allisen Corpuz US Women Open win top your Chevron win. Typical USC fan on the green before the champ got a chance to smile. I'm not going to get into the middle of this, other than to defend the honor of Lilia ("I love you, Lilia Vu") at the same time that I celebrate the unique, truly unique event of Allisen's win at the first US Open at Pebble Beach. No one else will ever be able to say that she won the first one at Pebble Beach. A record that will truly never be broken... I hope the sponsors flock all over Allisen!
But I will welcome both sides of this 'conflict' to the BIG TEN CONFERENCE next year, I'm one midwesterner who can't wait for these iconic institutions and sports programs to join what will be the first coast to coast conference in college sports. And I will support both of your schools every time they play the University of Michigan Wolverines. Hope both of you beat U-M every time! As an MSU Spartan alum, I support any team that plays the Wolverines, such as the 2007 FCS Appalachian State Mountaineers who defeated the preseason #5 Wolverines in Ann Arbor which was the beginning of a downward spiral for U-M football that lasted about a decade over four head coaches. So bring it on, Trojans and Bruins! Bring Bill Walton's basketball commentary too, I enjoy it even if I don't understand it...

I saw a statistic tonight, I think it was on ESPN, that there have been only three Women's US Open winners with all four rounds under par since 1995, if I recall correctly. The most recent two were Allisen today and Lee6 in 2019.

You are pathetic ... btw, per the USWO website, "A limited number of scooters will be located at the Pebble Beach Market Parking Lot near Gate 3".

You knucklehead ... otoh, the 2004 runner-up at Chevron might be her future role model.

Now some general comments about Sunday. What was the most unusual or unlikely thing that happened? (1) In Gee ace on 5. Certainly a highlight of any tournament. (2) Bailey Tardy's 3rd hole. Her approach shot to the green was taken from the tee box of 17. And she nearly parred the hole anyway! At that point I thought, Phil, you are right, Tardy's been playing over her head all weekend, now she's toast and will probably end up at +9 for the round or something like that. Not exactly... (3) Someone correct me please if I have a detail wrong on this. There was a substantial delay on 7 (or maybe 8?) when Hyo Joo (?) had a problem with a sticky substance contaminating her grips. Her caddy ended up emptying the entire bag onto the green, turned it upside down and shook it. Something red came out, which the broadcasters identified as a strawberry (?)
Did anyone anticipate Charley Hull? I don't recall that her name was mentioned once in this thread by anyone. But you know what, honestly I don't believe in 'karma' or 'retribution.' Many times bad things happen to good people, and many times good things happen to bad people. But all day as Charley was putting on a charge, all I was thinking was that she and Georgia Hall were the two 'traitors' who betrayed their teammates, without even telling them in person, their country, and the tour, the cause of women's golf, by skipping out on the Hanwha a month or two ago. I hate to admit this, because it says something negative about me, but when Charley's second shot on 18 was rolling down the edge of the fairway, I was yelling, "Go in the sand, go in the sand!" And it did. Allisen would have won anyway, but it was satisfying to see Charley in the sand on 18 to kill any slim chance that she might have had, after the Hanwha.
See you all in Toledo (Sylvania, Ohio) next weekend. Welcome back to the Midwest!

You know what hurt Ayaka, Phil? On Saturday she wore dark clothes and nothing with the bright almost fluorescent yellow... her 2nd worst round of the weekend... By the way, the local tv covered Leona earlier in the weekend, here in the Midwest we are very loyal, Leona was the Meijer winner last month, after that we will follow her forever. But tonight on the Sunday night sports broadcast, they did spend 15 or 30 seconds on the Women's US Open, declaring that the winner was "Allisen Corpoz." then the reporter corrected herself, "excuse me, Corpuz."

Merion GC (East) was a brutal spectator walk at the 2022 Curtis Cup ... I may have to put my ego in check at the 2034 USWO and go for a scooter ... hope Dianna Murphy doesn't run me into a ditch.

Yes, as I watched the 2013 US Open on tv from Michigan, I remember thinking, wow, I don't recall that much up and down hill topography where I had lived in the Philly suburbs "Main Line" back in the 90s. My house was only about 2 miles from the course. Now I will explain something that only someone who'd lived in Philly would ever understand.
Q: "Merion GC, is that in Upper Merion or Lower Merion?" A: "No, neither one, it's actually in Haverford Township."
Q: "Oh, you mean it's located in Haverford, the mailing address is Haverford, PA 19041?" A: "No, the mailing address is Ardmore, PA 19003. It's located in Haverford TOWNSHIP but Ardmore is the LOCALITY." Q: "How do you know so much about the area? Are you from Ardmore too?" A: "No, I live in Haverford."
Q: "Oh, you live in Haverford township, that's how you know?" A: "No, I live in Haverford LOCALITY, zip code 19041, but I live in Lower Merion Township." Q: "Oh, so Merion GC is located in Lower Merion Township?" A: "No, I live in Lower Merion Township, Haverford 19041 is the locality, but the course is located in Haverford Township, Ardmore 19003 is the locality." That usually shut up the questioner. If not, then I would introduce further confusion by explaining Narberth borough...

I can't shut up tonight, think I just remembered the final comment that I intended to make above. Yesterday Phil called out Tardy and Schubert for wearing clothing with Epson Tour logos, and I totally agreed. Bailey, you just finished T4 in a major, you made more in one weekend than I make in four years, you are not 'minor league' anymore.
But did anyone notice the winner, the champion, Allisen, in a feat that will never be matched, winning the inaugural Pebble Beach edition of the US Women's Open, was sporting a "Korn Ferry" cap or visor? I understand that she was advertising or promoting the BUSINESS Korn Ferry, the consulting firm. But for anyone who follows golf, what does "Korn Ferry" mean to you? Every time there was a closeup of Allisen's face, which was many times, I would think, "No, Allisen, you're not minor league, get a new hat, you are a champion now!"

Round 4 I enjoyed watching this until it became inescapably obvious that Corpuz had this in the bag, somewhere around the 12th hole. It's a sad statement about the Korean situation these days that it takes a 35 year old golfer to actually mount a charge on the leaders. But what has happened inevitably is, when a Korean plays well, there's always one player who just gets a lead and cannot be caught. It happened with Minjee last year, and so again this year. TBH, I figured either she or Hataoka was going to win; it seemed unlikely they both would screw up. There were still some highlights. Min Ji Park hit a great televised shot on 7 to about three feet; her pitch mark was inches from the hole. Six had a nice 70; great to see her on the rebound. And of course, there was In Gee's ace, which not only gave us her second hole in one at a Major this year, but a fantastic lengthy victory celebration as she high fived everyone along the ropes. Alas, she shortly after that returned to struggling and didn't even get a top 20. But she did have that one moment. https://www.instagram.com/p/CugQ9jDr_g_ Hyo Joo continued her lackluster play from yesterday. Tardy continued to be the luckiest person I've seen in quite a while. Typical was the hole where she hit such a terrible shot that it hit TWO different cart paths, bounded onto the next tee, yet still left her with a really good look at the green. Most folks hitting something like that would have been in the woods or deep rough. After about four holes I realized that Hyo Joo wasn't going to be able to close in on the leaders. They barely showed Hae Ran, but she looked scared. She's still young, though, so she'll get better. So it fell to Jiyai to make some noise, and she delivered. She was fantastic. I'm not sure what her best moment was, but that par save on 16 was all-world (what was that, thirty feet?). Her final hole was a work of art, too. Into a fairway bunker, out to near the green, third to ten feet, drilled a birdie to tie for second. Since I detest Hull, I was glad to see Jiyai steal a little money from her pocket there. It was a lot of fun to watch, but I wish someone had been close to Corpuz. Congrats to her for sapping the drama out of the proceedings. She certainly was the best player, but imagine how much more fun Jiyai's antics would have been if the win was on the line? I sure hope we get to see Shin come back more frequently, at least until some of the next generation can take up the mantle. Hwaiting!
