Keep in mind also that when they postponed this last year, it was right at the point where sports had totally stopped and no one had figured out a way to play them during the pandemic. In the year since, they have had numerous sports leagues start back up and play. So there is plenty of evidence now that it can work, where there wasn't in April of 2020.

The virus has now become personal, because as of this past Wednesday I officially have it.
I'm asymptomatic for now and hope that it stays that way. Since I'm obliged to wear a mask at work and do so whenever I'm out in public I'm at a loss as to how I contracted it. I'm in self isolation at home and of course I can't work so I'm watching golf live for the first time in months.
Stay tuned for more updates.Kevin

I've made it a point to get tested monthly for the past several. This time I came up unlucky.
Whenever I donate platelets now the Red Cross tests a sample of my blood for the COVID-19 antibodies. My most recent session was the previous Wednesday the 13th, and it came back negative.
I've sent PDF copies of my test to both my dispatcher and my doctor and have reopened my unemployment claim. The Commonwealth's Community Tracing Collaborative phoned me this afternoon and I just scheduled a follow up test for Tuesday. I have enough food for now and plenty of TV to catch up on so I should be okay.

Sorry to hear this I hope you remain asymptomatic. We in Australia are absolutely shocked at what an appalling impact covid-19 has had in America.
I'm so glad I live in a country that has treated this pandemic seriously with the result being no community transmissions in 18 days.

Sorry to read this, hope you get well soon.
The good news is that on Jan. 15 I got my parents (both 80+) vaccine appointments for Jan. 30 ... and then they were cancelled by the hospital on Jan. 22 (no supply). Getting those Jan. 30 appointments was easy via the NJ state portal ... now, that website is an effin' nightmare to get them rescheduled. Today, I registered them via one of the hospital chain portals, in theory, to cover more locations in addition to ones that draw from the NJ website. I have no idea if this really makes a difference or not. As of now, it would be easier to buy smack on a Camden street corner.
Oh, I registered myself at the NJ site ... I'm under 60 and have no health issues, which means I'm SOL indefinitely.

A test I took on Tuesday came back negative. I just took one this afternoon and have another scheduled for Sunday. I'm still asymptomatic and still in isolation so all is well so far.

The Boston Marathon will return in October ... and I didn't know this sport had "majors", but they have been grouped together on the calendar for 2021:
Aug. 7: Women’s Olympic Marathon Aug. 8: Men’s Olympic Marathon Sept. 26: Berlin Marathon Oct. 3: London Marathon Oct. 10: Chicago Marathon Oct. 11: Boston Marathon Oct. 17: Tokyo Marathon Nov. 7: New York City Marathon
*******
Woo-hoo, I got my parents rescheduled for their first vax shots next week ... naturally, there will be snow that day. Murphy says the state system will automatically schedule them for the second shot and e-mail the notifications ... okay, we'll see.

I didn't know which marathons were Majors, but I did know you had to qualify for the Boston one, and I wasn't fast enough back when I used to run 'em. I'm wondering if all those marathons have minimum time requirements to enter?

The Boston Marathon hasn't always been run on a Monday, but until last year's cancelation it had always been run on Patriots Day. The more traditional commemorations of the events of 19 April 1775 that the holiday celebrates were also canceled and it looks doubtful that they'll be held this spring either. If they manage to get the baseball season up and running on schedule it would be pointless for the Red Sox to hold their traditional Patriots Day matinee as no one would be allowed in to see it. Speaking of Fenway Park, it just became the Commonwealth's 2nd mass vaccination site after Foxborough. As for when I can realistically expect to be able to get a jab, I'm likely in the 3rd group in Phase 2 since I have 2 comorbidities (obesity and type 2 diabetes) but good luck trying to navigate the official website to schedule an appointment. As people in the first group in Phase 2 (75 & older are eligible from this Tuesday) are discovering it's hardly user friendly and as of this writing there's no central phone number for those who lack internet access or the patience to navigate the site. And let's not even get started on the supply problems since there's nothing we can do about that.
Rant over. I guess the self isolation is beginning to take its toll. At least it's keeping me out of the icebox thats descended on us this weekend and the storm we're anticipating right afterwards in the new week. I'm still hanging in there, though.

I hope the Boston marathon returns to it's traditional Patriot's Day when this pandemic is over. I never ran them, but have so many fond memories of watching - either spilling out with the baseball crowd after the 11am game to catch the leaders going by Kenmore Sq, or setting up somewhere farther back on the course to watch. Remember using an old Super 8 camera to capture Rodgers running past, and was there the year Seko won it, and Benoit coming out of nowhere. Then the Kenyans began to dominate. Watched many of those guys fly past at the Boston/Brookline line on Beacon St - would walk over around lunchtime from the Gardner Museum when I worked there in the 2000s.

I live in Melbourne and let me tell you we take this virus very seriously, i realize some may think that we have taken this well overboard with just one positive case in 29 days and how can we allow a government to bulldoze our rights with mandatory masks and a severe curfew when it was in place a few months ago but it worked.
Personally I don't think the Australian Open should have gone ahead with the arrivals of tennis players from high infection countries and the lack of concern from what I can see in what has occurred in the US.
Just look at the stats 7.7% of American have had the virus compared 0.12% of Australians. I know what country I want to live in!
If golf has been cancelled then so should have the Tennis.
