This three-rounder starts Friday at Tomei CC, ten miles SE of Mt. Fuji. With JY Shin off this week, Shibuno Fever would push her way to the top of the points and money lists with a win. But, she's up against a course where the last three winning scores were -10, -9 and -6. Only 97 names are in the field, but I assume they'll add more. Last year they had amateur Ayean Cho ... don't know if they'll have any surprise entrants for this year.
TV Tokyo should have it (Japan time)
Sat. 4 PM
Sun. 3 PM

SBS Golf will also have it (Korea time)

In other news, JLPGA Pro Test continues at two locations for Oct. 8-11. The fields are not posted yet, but I'm 99% certain that Yuka Yasuda will be at one of them.

This week's boilerplate warning...I'll be curious to see if they issue one next week when Shibuno is not playiing:
[To all visitors to Stanley Ladies Golf Tournament]
The surrounding roads are very crowded.
The gallery parking lot may be full, so please come to the venue with a free gallery bus from Mishima Station and Susono Station.
This year is expected to be more crowded than usual. Especially in the morning time, it may take some time to get to the venue.
If it is judged that this will affect the progress of the competition and the safety of the gallery, admission restrictions and the issuance of free tickets on the day may be restricted. Please note.
********
I think I was wrong about Yuka Yasuda. I pushed through all the Pro Test player names through Google mush and don't see hers (maybe they consider her overqualified at this stage).

It seems that Hinako's Hordes in Japan will have nothing to worry about as she'll likely turn down LPGA membership for 2020. Big mistake. She may be the "Arnold Palmer of Japan," but she'll never be the "Hinako Shibuno of the World" unless she makes the move. I would have liked to see her shake things up with her quick pace and gutsy play.
Nasa and Jin Young had tough first years, battling poor play and/or loneliness. But if you asked either one today whether coming over was the right move, I'm pretty sure the answer would be a big yes.
The older she gets, the harder it will be to make a successful move. She needs to take her big swing at this now.

From my report on the Thursday pro-am at the 2017 ShopRite/Acer:
I spent the rest of the day checking out various pro-am groups. Nasa Hataoka was putting at #4, so I stationed myself behind the 5th tee box. Her looper did 99.9% of the talking...with a heavy Irish accent. Nasa is not in the LPGA...she is in The Twilight Zone.
After NASA washed out on Saturday (74-76-150, +8), she bombed out of the Monday 36-hole USWO qualifier and went to the hospital with chest pains. If Shibuno wants to play the LPGA occasionally as a visiting VIP dignitary in 2020, I'm okay with that.

Tuesday prep:
Hiromu Ono is ready to devour the tour with her new XXIO driver ... it also comes with a new cap (which should include a free bowl of soup).
Miki Sakai tested the new XXIO driver, but kept her Srixon visor.
Yamaha fired back by getting the new RMX 120 irons (not in USA market) into the hands of Kana Nagai
******
The two q-school flights started on Tuesday .... these people are so unknown that I don't feel like posting the scores. In Group 'B', Yuli Seki (aka Mini Ting Ting) flopped with a 75 (+3), and will have to do much better to advance to the next stage. Someone named Mindy min seung Kim opened with an 80 ... I'm guessing this is NOT the ex-LPGAer. In Group 'C', hotshot amateur Yuna Nishimura fired 70 (-2) and should have no problem advancing.

Ai Suzuki is still out with a bad thumb/wrist and JY Shin is on the shelf with a bum ankle.

They'll have a roving caravan of crazies on Friday as Shibuno will be grouped with BML and Momoko Osato.
*********
Tee times have been moved up one hour on Friday in anticipation of Typhoon #19, which may hit in the afternoon. They must play 27 holes for the tournament to be official.

Randall Mell: Golf (Partial Article)
Shibuno, however, says she still favors remaining on the Japan LPGA next year. I am more interested in the U.S. LPGA tour than when I won AIG a couple months ago,” Shibuno told reporters while playing the Japan Women’s Open last weekend. “I would like to play the U.S. tour in the future, but definitely not next year, at this point.”
Shibuno said watching Hataoka, So Yeon Ryu and Inbee Park has heightened her interest in playing the LPGA in an attempt to become a better player. She also said she would like to learn English as preparation to do so.
Kotone and Natsuka Hori are (DSN) on the STEP- UP tour this week. I guess it meant did not show .

Yui Kawamoto at practice this week ... she is taking the opposite path and will throw her visor into the LPGA Q-Series later this month. She's the closest version of Lucky 6 on the JLPGA tour, although her swing is not as tight as the Real McCoy. I'd be shocked if she didn't finish in the top-45 later at Pinehurst.

The only thing that could possibly stop Shibuno fever would be the weather, and look what's due to make an appearance on Saturday:Super Typhoon Hagibis as of 1500JST (2amEDT) is 1250 km south of Tokyo moving north at 20 km/h with maximum sustained winds at its center of 260 km/h.
The organizers of the Rugby World Cup have already cancelled two group matches slated for Saturday that were due to be held in the Kansai region where the storm is expected to make landfall: New Zealand vs Italy in Toyota and England vs France in Yokohama. The teams involved in both were each given two points in the standings. Ireland vs Samoa in Fukuoka is not likely to be impacted by the typhoon. Yokohama is due to host Japan vs Scotland on Sunday but that will be dependent on how the region fared during the storm. The other two matches that will close out pool play on Sunday are in other parts of the country outside of Hagibis' direct path.
The Central and Pacific Leagues are both contesting their best of five championship series in the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo and the Seibu Dome in Tokorozawa respectively, though what happens outside the venues could impact whether games slated for Saturday will be played.Kevin

I guess it's the blue version of the new XXIO driver that the pros like Hina Arakaki will use ... makes sense as the past versions were also blue.
Serena Aoki is another convert and defending champ Shoko Sasaki teed it up with Kobayashi
Hinako Shibuno
Bo Mee Lee and Aoi Ohnishi

They'll definitely complete the 1st round ... after that, who knows, thanks to Typhoon 19. Spectators will not be permitted on the grounds all day Saturday. Sunday is up in the air ... no spectators in the AM, but maybe allowed in the PM. This has the look of a 27-36 hole sprint.
Ah Reum Hwang and Rumi Yoshiba (that doesn't look like a Roddio driver anymore - UPDATE: it's the latest ONOFF Kuro driver, released Aug. 31)
Sakura Koiwai and Hee Kyeong Bae
Karis Davidson and Asako Fujimoto

They had an early cut of top-60 plus ties at +1 ... not sure when those 61 players will play again. Saturday's round is cancelled ... max winds of 157 MPH on the way. They'll decided on game day if they can get in Sunday's round ... everyone would start from the same hole and they'll have to get in nine holes to make it official (75% purse payout). If they play Sunday, it'll be in front of no spectators, which has never happened on this tour before.
RANK PLAYER SCORE TODAY 1R 2R TOTAL 1 Ah-Reum Hwang -7 -7 65 65 2T Erika Kikuchi -5 -5 67 67 2T Maria Shinohara -5 -5 67 67 4T Saki Takeo -4 -4 68 68 4T Haruka Morita -4 -4 68 68 4T @hinano Hoshikawa -4 -4 68 68 7T @sora Kamiya -3 -3 69 69 7T Hiroko Azuma -3 -3 69 69 7T Akira Yamaji -3 -3 69 69 7T Misuzu Narita -3 -3 69 69 7T Lala Anai -3 -3 69 69 7T Mayu Hirota -3 -3 69 69
Serena Aoki (WD)
Hinako Shibuno (-1) and Bo Mee Lee (-2) ... there was no scheduled broadcast for Friday, but I guess TV Tokyo was there to record highlights for a future broadcast (if there is one).
Sharon (MC) blew it by one stroke again
Asako Fujimoto gets her prize for an ace at #10 (187 yards)
Momoka Miura (-2), Erika Hara (MC) and Mamiko Higa (-1)
Chae Young Yoon (+1) and Sakura Yokomine (MC), who still has space to rent.

Things can sure change for a golfer. I remember at the ANA or maybe it was the Kraft Nabisco. There was a long line at the Autograph Tent. I was told that it was Sakura Yokomine. I knew about her because of her wins on the JLPGA Tour. But she looked to young to have won all those tournaments.
Now she can't get a Major Sponsor.

sakura yokomine is ranked 119 on rolex and 64 on the lpga moneylist.... she actually has played very well this year on the usa lpga almost $300K in prize earnings ... she has 23 wins on the Jlpga and ranked 5 in career moneylist. the fact that she doesnt have a logo on her hat is not that she cannot find a sponser; its more like the time ingee chun had a blank logo on her hat.. yokomine changed her clubs to a mixture of various vendors... i hope that she can get a win on usa lpga but the competition of course is cruel... i always liked to watch her windmill swing, although it appears she has toned down her swing somewhat from her early years on the tour... 横峯さくら/Sakura Yokomine (@sakura_yokomine) • Instagram photos and videos

I wasn't saying that she Sakura has regressed or is playing bad or anything. I was just pointing out how big a star that she was. As I said I knew about her twenty plus wins. But she looked like she was twenty years old. I liked her swing because it was similar to Yuri Fudoh. Who I also saw at the Kraft Nabisco or Dinah Shore. I was impressed by how great she was with that long swing. Also when I was once in Hawaii, a lot of Japanese lady golfers had similar swings.
