jumpcutMichelle Wie was all the rages when she shot 68 in round 2 and missed 2004 SONY Open cut by one shot. That's 69 is impressive; we need to give her Q-Series medalist by default. She may be ahead of Weiwei Zhang after all.

Wow, that's a legit impressive performance, especially given she apparently had three lipouts in the second round and just missed the cut by one. And from the same tees as the men, too. I'm surprised we haven't heard more about this.

I'm surprised we haven't heard more about this. Considering the last player to try this -- Bam Bam at the 2018 Barbasol -- stunk it up so bad that she nearly DFL'ed, beating only 3 players in the field after Day 2. Yet there was media coverage from all the golf rags and Amy Rogers doing video interviews on site. Granted, this was the Canada PGA Tour and RBL doesn't have the same name recognition but she did beat or tie half the field in this event.

Those guys playing the Cannuck tour must have been way worse than the field in Bam Bam's Barbasol event. I looked at the 56 names who finished after RLB and the only familiar name is Jared du Toit, who must have turned pro recently...he was a top amateur in Canada for a while.
Nevertheless, RLB did a helluva job shooting -2 over two days on a 6,996 yard course. Her LPGA comeback is looking quite doable now...and she's still only 27.
*********
Even in 2015, RLB was associating with the 'A' list:

It was an opposite field event and anyone who was anyone was in the UK playing in the Open Championship that week. Just look at this illustrious field, especially the names under the cutline: www.pgatour.com/competition/2018/barbasol-championship/leaderboard.html

She shot -3; she could have beaten Rory McIlroy or Brooks Koepka on this day. I don't know whether she'll medal in Stage II or Q-Series; but she'll be alive and kicking at 2020 LPGA.

And probably unlike Lincicome, Lee-Bentham didn't even play the par fives well despite having rare wedges into the green. OK, Rebecca isn't on the LPGA currently so I'm not surprised they ignored it, but I hope they at least take a moment out from the thing happening this week and post an article on LPGA.com.

Old warhorse Megumi Shimokawa made a cover on the latest book to save your game...a totally unexpected choice, but I didn't know that she gives golf tips on a TV Tokyo golf program. If this one doesn't work, try the one with Erika Hara (right).

Japan's post office is putting out commemorative Shibuno framed stamps and postcards. They did something similar in Dec. 2017 when Ai Miyazato retired that year.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if Becky Kay can get past Stage Two of LPGA q-school...would bring some good visuals.

philknjBecky Kay had two fantastic rounds in Japan at 2019 Asia Pacific Women's Amateur Championship; she also passed Stage I with a few margin. Wonder if she registered for JLPGA's Pro Test?

Did anybody ask Shibuno if she knew the WBO was a major?
