The annual Blast Furnace Open in the Palm Springs area will take place Aug. 22-25. The entry deadline is August 12 and 285 alleged players are in the field so far. To see the field, go to lpga.com, click Q-SCHOOL and click the 'ENTER HERE' button.
Naomi Ko got in some practice there earlier this month.

They are up to 310 mostly delusional entrants. I think most of them are trying to buy street cred as a pro...maybe a launching point for becoming an instructor or getting your name picked for the ShopRite/Acer pro-ams.
I've seen a small number of them play in person, including Caroline Ciot, Brynn Walker, Suzie Lee, Riley Rennell, Anna Young, Katie Detlefsen, Regina Plasencia (had temporary 1st round lead at Lancaster in 2015), Hanule Sky Seo and Haley Moore. Walker has a pretty good record in various qualifiers...can handle pressure well and might be successful on the Symetra Tour one day.
Kyoka Matsumori will give it a go...she's not even on the JLPGA roster anymore.
I guess Jennifer Hirano is homesick for the USA. She bombed off Japan's big tour and has not played at all in Japan in 2019. How does she expect to make it to the LPGA tour? Maybe she should have invested her entrance fee in golf lessons to tear down and rebuild that nasty swing of hers.
RLB is on the list. I remember her on the practice green at the Seaview 4-5 years ago...Galvin Green was her apparel brand. I think GG is a Euro brand...does anyone wear it anymore?

What is RLB trying to do? She is already living her best life. An LPGA card would only cramp her style.

She won an entry to the CP Women's Open when she won the Women's PGA of Canada, but I guess she's blowing that off for Q School on the same dates. Hey If she won the CP, she wouldn't have to worry about Q School! From one of her recent posts, it looks like she's been flying commercial lately. Getting her card back would help maintain her street cred.

The final tally was 359 players out 360 maximum spots. Too bad Sharon didn't jump in at the last second, as she is 445th on the RR.
Monday was also the deadline for Stage Two...that's the list I really want to see, but it hasn't been posted (or I can't find it).
Back to Stage One...it will probably be the top-60 plus ties that advance to Stage Two.
***********
How about a career amateur pushing 36 throwing her visor into the ring? That would be Ina Kim-Schaad...I saw her at the USWA qualifier at Raritan Valley in July and didn't know who she was, aside from being a total fashionista. I didn't see her play, but she shot a respectable 75. Upon further research, she was Ina Kim in 2000 when the she lost to Lisa Ferrero in the finals of the 2000 U.S. Girls' Junior. She played at Northwestern (2001-05) where she shot a robust 77.80. For obvious reasons, she's been working in the real world, but the golf bug won't leave her. She played seven times on the Symetra tour since 2018 and made two cuts. But, turning pro now? Unless there's a street cred reason, I think she's crazy.
Qualified for 2017 US Women's Mid-Amateur as low medalist (72, +1)...article and excerpt below:
Kim is a native of Los Angeles and stopped playing for 11 years after graduating in 2005 from Northwestern University where she was a member of the golf team. Working in finance, she lived in London and Hong Kong before moving to Manhattan two years ago. She was a talented junior golfer and finished as the runner-up in the 2000 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship.
Kim has been playing since she was six years old.
She rekindled her interest in golf through her fiancé, Ian Schaad, a member at Bayonne Golf Club. Over the past year-and-a-half, Kim has won the WMGA/MGA Women’s Met Amateur Championships in 2016 and two WMGA Stroke-Play titles.
“The greens are tricky here. They break a lot. They are quick and lightning fast going downhill,” said Kim, 33, who played this year in the U.S. Amateur Championship in San Diego, but failed to make the cut. She hit 17 greens yesterday.
“I have a good short game, but I’d like to get my putting together before going to Quail Creek. I am really looking forward to going to the Mid-Am. The ladies are so much fun to play with. It’s an honor to be medalist,” she said.

Another one of my "spectator alumni" is Mathilda Cappeliez (2016 USWA), who has thrown her beret into the ring for Stage One. She's also on Portland's Monday qualifier list for Aug. 26. This past student of Dr. Won Park could use a refresher ASAP ($0.00 earnings in 11 Symetra starts this season). Her home town is Evian...I hope the horndogs are helping her out.

FYI - The Stage Two list has been posted and Lucy Li is on it as an amateur.

Karen Chung had eight starts but made only $19.000. I really thought that she would do better. It's still early in her career, so still has a chance.

Sightseeing before the big event for Minami Levonowich. I guess she is part Japanese (see bio on her Youtube channel)...she has pinballed her way around the various Asian scrub tours.

I was hitting solid shots throughout the day and putts were rolling in from everywhere on the front nine, with eight one-putts. Entering the week, I had the mentality of putting myself into a position to win the event, so I’m glad I could post good numbers heading into the final 18 holes.” Rebecca Lee-Bentham (-5, 8th) on what prompted her to make a return to competitive golf: “My first Q-School was 2011 and I made it through the first try, had LPGA status for four years. Then I stopped playing and spent three years coaching back home in Toronto, never missed playing. This past December I visited California and met up with two friends that caddy on the PGA TOUR. They asked why I don’t play still and that if I ever did, they believe in me and would pay for Q-School. It was a little spark, but I wasn’t convinced to return. Other things happened that seemed like signs to go for it and February was when I stopped coaching to move to California, start practicing and get ready for Q-School. I played in and won the PGA Women’s Championship of Canada, with a course record in the final round. That got me an exemption into the CP Women’s Open, but I have priorities and if I wanted to get back out there then this is the right step. So far, it is pretty good.” Soo Jin Lee (+1, T53) on shooting 6-under par in the third round after starting the day tied for 202nd: “It feels good to have a round in the 60s and it is actually my first bogey-free round as a professional. I can’t even put into words how happy I am, even though there’s one more day left. I have struggled with my putting the whole year including the first day here, but it progressively got better every day. All the hours of practicing on the greens has helped. Now it’s about not placing too much pressure on myself.”
