Two venues new to this championship will serve as hosts in 2020 & 2021. Royal Troon, nine-time host of The Open & the venue for the 2008 Senior Open, will be first up.
The big announcement this week is that the Women's British Open will finally have hit all three parts of the island of Great Britain when Royal Porthcawl, roughly midway between the two main Welsh cities of Cardiff and Swansea, takes its turn in 2021. It has previously hosted the Senior Open twice, 2014 and 2017, both won by Bernhard Langer. The Open in its long history has yet to be contested in Wales (only twice now has it been to Northern Ireland, where the ladies still haven't been), but perhaps the R&A may be testing the waters by placing the Women's British Open there in 2 years time.golfweek.com/2019/07/31/golf-womens-british-open-royal-porthcawl-2021/Kevin

I think that's the same starter who gave HoJo her nickname last year. She was too far back to get a TV introduction today. But he's making a concerted effort trying to come up with new nicknames for other players.

First tee just announced "From Korea, Sung Hunn Park". Which immediately got Stupples all twisted and confused, it got her saying "Sung Hyooon" again, despite getting it right from Thursday-Saturday. All this talking business is a such challenge for this crew.
I realize now that for Koreans, having westerners F up your name is no annoyance, but rather a sign that one has made it big time. See Kim, Yeon-a, famous figure skater. Whose response to white people giving her a new name was: Yeon-a is a nice name, but Yuna is also good too!

They have the same starter at the WBO this year - "Sung Hung Park". I tuned into the broadcast too late to see if "Hojo Kim" is playing again today.
*******
Before today, Japan has only one major winner: Chako Higuchi at the 1977 LPGA Championship, played at the defunct Bay Tree Golf Plantation in SC...nice softball field bleachers.

If Shibuno can follow the same formula (muddle through the front nine and murder that back nine), IT IS OVER. Whoops, that four-putt hurt at #3. Salas looks like the most serious threat.
Grandma Judy just said she loves how Nelly can hit the ball high. Maybe that's a change...I followed her a bit at Bedminster in 2017...her backswing was a little flat and she hit a consistent low-medium trajectory tight draw.
Kudos to Tom Abbott for using the word "journeyman" (or maybe it was journeywoman) to describe Buhai at the 1st tee...probably an accidental slip of candor!
I have to go out now...will pick up the replay at my parents' place later.
Su Oh during Round One...she's in the house on Sunday with a gar-bage (French accent on 2nd syllable) time 66.

Did anybody else see -- earlier in the broadcast-- Tom interviewing "his grace, the Duke of Bedford"? This guy apparantly owns, through inheritance, all of the "Woburn Estate," including the golf courses and 85-room mansion that he lives in.
I've never seen Tom more in his element (or more in awe).

I didn't see it but Tom is definitely the belle of the ball this week.

Can't help but wonder if the El Paso shooting is on Salas's mind right now. She is playing unbelievable.

Not a fan of Shibuno. Not even gonna get into why lest I get smarmed out of town. Let's just say diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks.

Smile Cinderella has exemplary manners. Always picks up her divot and replaces it. I'm surprised she doesn't carry a bag of sod slung over her shoulder like that gal on the JLPGA.
In Gee also gladhanded the crowd during her round when she first started on the LPGA, although I haven't seen her do it in awhile. Then again, she hasn't been on TV in awhile.

Bleh. At least Jin Young didn't need that putt after all. Salas has to be devastated though.

She should immediately declare herself a member of the LPGA. And show everyone the proper pace of play next week at the Scottish.
