When Pretzel was hitting out of the sand on 18 green, i was waiting for an announcer to say "She needs to channel her inner Birdie Kim"
Sorry to T Joh for publicly supporting her. I was smart enough to keep to myself who i was rooting for over the weekend. And she won!! Sugoi !!
If an American had won, it would have made no difference. If another Korean had won, it would have made no difference. Even if it was Ko for the tré
A player from Japan winning is HUGE. Korea and Japan care the most about Women's Golf.

This is kind of interesting. It's a highlight reel, but it's narrated by a guy imitating a sports reporter on a local TV news show, even making the bad jokes ("By the way, unofficial course record set for high-fives at Woburn!") that TV newsguys do.
This was obviously intended for local TV news stations to use in their Sunday night sports report and I wouldn't be surprised if many of them did. This was the perfect event to introduce new fans to the LPGA.

Jeongeun Lee6 with the Rep at the 12th green?
Is it possible that she may have got a penalty for a rule violation. They didn't show her again after she hit her drive in the water. She hit an iron off the tee but it went too far. Still she only had a about a hundred yards. So she could have easily saved par. But the next hole her score showed that she carded a double bogey. Not sure why they didn't show what happened.

Love the tournament last week. Great coverage here in the states (+6hrs daily of golf). Congrats to Hinako Shibuno. She reminds me a lot of how In Gee was at the beginning. Beautiful smile all the time

First tee just announced "From Korea, Sung Hunn Park". Which immediately got Stupples all twisted and confused, it got her saying "Sung Hyooon" again, despite getting it right from Thursday-Saturday. All this talking business is a such challenge for this crew. I realize now that for Koreans, having westerners F up your name is no annoyance, but rather a sign that one has made it big time. See Kim, Yeon-a, famous figure skater. Whose response to white people giving her a new name was: Yeon-a is a nice name, but Yuna is also good too! Stupples also calls Ms. Pak 'See Ray' at times, which is pretty inexcusable.

Round 4 Sigh.... Soooo close! Such an amazing two weeks by Jin Young, and she slugged it out until the end, saving her best round for last. But one or two short misses coming in, and a few sloppy moments earlier in the tournament, cost her. She also ran into two players producing career best golf. Seriously, has Salas even had a top ten this year? I think just one, yet suddenly she's unbeatable. And Shibuno is still a big question mark to me. She seemed to have an uncanny mix of clutch play and insane luck, like on 12, and that's a hard combo to beat. Lucky Six and Jin Young were tied for the lead at the turn, and I couldn't have been more thrilled. Alas, Six chose the worst time to hit a mediocre iron, and she rolled into the water on 12 to end her chances; not a good shot, but still shouldn't have turned out as bad as it did. Still, a great week for her, and all you can ask is to have a chance to win, and she certainly did before that catastrophe. I have to say, I'm pretty cold on the idea of back-to-back Majors. Jin Young gets her second Major, setting herself up for a historic triple. And we have all of three days to build the excitement. Good move, LPGA! I finally saw the American media giving her some props, but now that's over because she couldn't pull off two in a row and Evian is yesterday's news. Imagine if the next Major were a month after Evian, and we had some time to see a bunch of articles hyping her quest? And on top of her not getting the buzz, she also had to deal with fatigue from the win, and there was definitely some sloppy stuff early on (when has she ever had a four putt?). Whatever, I'm really proud of her. She gave it her all, and it was scintillating. As for Shibuno, I have to say that for me (I realize this will be a minority opinion), she crosses the line from happy/exuberant to obnoxious. Since I was not rooting for her particularly, it began to feel like she was laughing at her opponents when she would make a good shot or get a lucky break and immediately start yukking it up. It makes me appreciate Sung Hyun Park's poker face a little more. It came off (to me at least) as a bit disrespectful. Congrats to her for pulling this one off, but I'm hoping we are not going to be overdosed on her next year. Somehow I knew from Friday that she was going to win; everything seemed to go her way every time she needed it to. I can't complain too much, because it's been a fabulous year for the Koreans, but it still stings a little. Ah well, all in all a great Major season for the Sisters, a superstar turn for Jin Young Ko, and a fabulous coming out party for Lucky Six. Hwaiting!!

Some observations: 3- Might not be a popular statement on here but I have to say it. Sung Hyun Park (who I respect as one of the two best players in the world) has become one of my least favorite players on tour. Don't know which is worse, watching Stacy for years with her pouty face or watching Zombie Park. At least Stacy played fast. Well, here's my defense of Sung Hyun. Please take it as a friendly discussion and nothing more! Not everyone can do a happy dance every time they make a nice shot. And comparing her to Lewis? Lewis is not annoying because she is pouty, she is annoying because she is a world class whiner and bad sport on top of being pouty. I look at it this way: imagine for a minute that every time Park pulled off an extraordinary shot (which is, what, ten - twenty times/round?), she pumped her fist and roared a la Tiger. Now imagine you are rooting for someone else. Would that endear her to you? I think not; in fact, I think it would be even worse. Now imagine how the anti-Korean gallery members would react. She would become public enemy number one in quick time. In a way, the Koreans don't have the luxury of acting like Americans because of this. I agree that I hope she comes out of her shell a little more and shows more reaction. But I think she's in a place where she understands what she is capable of, and is such a perfectionist that anything less than top drawer is not good enough. I think Thompson is the same way, but at least Park doesn't scramble for excuses whenever things go wrong; she just internalizes the emotion, which is not good for her health perhaps, but is still better than throwing your sponsors under the bus like Lexi did.

Where you do make a few good points, you have to admit that she is a very slow player who is very boring to watch. I don't know if Shibuno's performance will increase future TV ratings (we might need a new fresh American star who doesn't whine to do that), but don't you think she made lots more fans in a couple of days then Park will ever make (outside of Korea of course)?

https://www.instagram.com/p/B0w0OChgM5W I am going to defend Hinako Shibuno win at the Women British Open. While I think that she was a little over the top with her hand slapping. That being said, she played a great tournament. How she played the back nine is why she won the tournament, all breaks aside. She is not like a golfer that played the golf round of her life. As a Rookie on the JLPGA she has won twice with one a Major. She is in second place for PLOY and Money Title. She has a chance to be Player of The Year and could win the Money Title. As much I wanted Jin Young Ko to win, I still can be happy for young Hinako's win. Now if Morgan Pressel had won it would be a different story. She wasn't playing particular well, but made long putts from everywhere. It would have been like Georgia Hall win last year.

SH seems a little morose to me but I assume she’s actually very exciting and that I just don’t get it. That many fans can’t be wrong.
Her driver and flop shot game is awesome. And she’s a fashionista which is more important than anything else. Find some LPGA circa 2001 and you’ll be reminded how bad it can get. Giant pleated khaki shorts and XXL shirts. The dark ages.
