Twenty-two sub-wannabes start teeing off at 11 AM today in the qualifier. Kathleen Ekey has the best pedigree, so I'm picking her to get one spot. I'll take a wild guess at Emma Jandel for the second spot, who has been clunking around the Symetra Tour for ten years. I gave EJ a look-over at the Galloway pro-am last month and she hasn't cut corners on her fitness.

A one rounder is such a crapshoot; even Tiger Woods at his prime is no guarantee for victory.

If someone ever offers gambling on who will pass a Monday qualifier, DON'T BITE! My amateur handicapping was without the knowledge that Porvasnik played at Ohio State ... and Lizzie Win of Seton Hall U. (by way of Ohio) played this tournament last year:
Pos Player Name Nat. Par Score
1 Jessica Porvasnik (USA) USA Par 72 1 Lizzie Win (USA) (a) USA Par 72
Failed to Qualify
3 Emma Jandel (USA) USA +1 73 3 Whitney Pyle (USA) USA +1 73 5 Hannah Hellyer (CAN) CAN +2 74 5 Kathleen Ekey (USA) USA +2 74 7 Selena Costabile (CAN) CAN +3 75 8 Anna Lesher (USA) USA +4 76 8 Gabrielle Gibson (USA) USA +4 76 10 Shelby Warner (USA) USA +5 77 10 Anna Appert Lund (SWE) SWE +5 77 10 Macy Hubbard (USA) USA +5 77 10 Gabrielle Shipley (USA) USA +5 77 14 Karyn Lee Ping (CAN) CAN +6 78 14 Haylee Harford (USA) USA +6 78 16 Molly Skapik (USA) USA +7 79 16 Samantha Stancato (USA) USA +7 79 16 Janelle Johnson (USA) USA +7 79 16 Suzie Lee (USA) USA +7 79 20 Hanule Sky Seo (KOR) KOR +8 80 21 Pinya Pipatjarasgit (USA) (a) USA +9 81 22 Sara Detlefsen (USA) USA +12 84

This week the LPGA travels to Ohio for the playing of the Marathon Classic Presented by Dana. Many of you may remember last year's exciting finish when Jasmine Suwannapura was victorious in a playoff over Brittany Lincicome. It was Suwannapura's first (and only) LPGA victory. Here is my preview of this week's event: www.tonyslpgareport.com/

Forget AVD
Forget Kupcho Forget Fassi Forget Pano Forget Gillman Forget Dr. Noh
This week, the GIC will probably go in with both feet on incoming Dukie freshman Erica Shepherd (trust me, she's worthy of it).

Minimal TV coverage this week, just 2 hours each day and all 4 days will be on a 3-hour tape delay. This may have been what the NY Times was referring to when they wrote that the LPGA has "scarcely a stage."
Livestream times as follows:
R1: 4:30pm ET R2: 4:30pm ET R3: 3pm ET R4: 3PM ET

I'm not sure. But a good guess might be the fact that the LPGA is treated like a neglected stepchild...broadcast only after the men, the geezers, the Korn Ferry wannabes, & "Feherty" reruns profiling John Daly.

I wonder if it has something to do with the amount of commercials. Out of control.

What the hell is a Korn Ferry? (No, I'm not going to look it up; I prefer to imagine it is a medical device for treating foot problems or a really bad 80s hair band).

When I started watching the LPGA, it always bugged me that the PGA, the Senior Tour, the Euros, even the Web.com tour, all had half an hour weekly TV shows on Golf Channel showcasing the tour, but the LPGA didn't.
Guess what? It's still the case. They still have never had a show like that featuring the ladies.
When Golf Channel starts producing a show like that, I'll begin to believe their attitude has shifted.

It's the new name for the Web.com Tour. Get used to it. The Korn Ferry Tour will be delaying the start of LPGA coverage for years to come.

Beth Ann Nichols' featured piece on Yealimi Noh; many insights. "On Saturday at Thornberry, Noh received word that she’d been given a sponsor invite to this week’s Marathon Classic. She now has a chance to build on that momentum from Wisconsin. The 2018 Rolex Junior Player of the Year also has a spot in the upcoming Evian Championship. At 17, Yealimi Noh learns life lessons on journey to LPGA Tour

Golf Channel 2, the deuce... c'mon what's the hold up? You know they need it, they know they need it. I'm shocked by how much Bryan Ferry and KORN make airwaves. Asia tours, European WOMENS golf from Dubai makes air? It's like ESPN in the early growth years, they can't fit it all on one channel. And back then LPGA was on ESPN....2
But when it happens, it's got to be BIG LEAGUES only on the Mothership. PGA LPGA (end of list )
All the other posers can get onto GC1 if and only when time is available. LPGA shouldn't be getting bumped for chump tours. But Golf Channel choices can and do hurt the LPGA and it's efforts toward more fair pay. I can't believe the WEB.Korn events get higher ratings than LPGA. If that's really true then GC is doing a terrible job promoting the ladies and too good a job promoting the minor league. Even with it's fallen from grace ex PGA folks... it's not a better product than LPGA.
I'm guessing this week LPGA eats it due to a contractual thing because it's a Senior Major event. Which gets insane amount of pub from Golf Channel and is also NOT a better product than LPGA.
Hey HappyFan, i'm guessing there is at least a 30 min show in Korea about KLPGA. Although technically, i don't think GC is producing those shows. PGA and Champions Tour provide them to GC.

SayYouSeRi What you failed to realize is that PGA Tour owns PGA Tour, PGA Tour Champions and Korn Ferry Tour but not LPGA. And Golf Channel is at the mercy of PGA Tour in planning their programs. As long as LPGA isn't part of PGA Tour, it'll always be the second class citizen on Golf Channel's totem pole. LPGA needs to break away from PGA Tour to negotiate its own TV coverage; but Mike Whan doesn't believe he can do it. The real question is whether LPGA should be sold to PGA Tour? Or whether PGA Tour wants to acquire LPGA Tour?
