Data point on GC's telecast priority of LPGA Golf:
After missing the first half of the broadcast window due to a rain delay, GC cuts away from the live telecast to show the 20-year old movie "Bagger Vance," followed immediately by another showing of the 20-year old movie "Bagger Vance."

Beating on a dead horse won't change anything. WTA is over their head and gets equal pay with men on tennis; but their popularity and TV exposure pale in comparison. Women's World Cup is minor reflection of World Cup. Due to physiology, women will never match men on sports; even though they're better in many other fields. Women's golf is exceeding popular in Korea for a reason; they have non-stop superstars like Se Ri, Grace, Inbee, Jiyai, Na Yeon, In Kyung, So Yeon, In Gee, Sung Hyun, Jin Young and Lucky 6. Unfortunately, Lexi is the only one we've right now.

My only point is that if the Golf Channel isn't going to show GOLF -- when they have the crew and equipment in place after a rain delay -- they might as well just turn off the transmitter and stop broadcasting a TV signal. The ratings would be about the same as the 999th showing of"Bagger Vance." Jtibs T1 -6 https://www.instagram.com/p/Byl8hDjFvKA

That WRX thread is one of the all-time mansplains.
The hardest thing in the world is to run a women’s pro sports league and they’ve been at it 70 years. Say what they will about too many Asians on the LPGA but the fastest growing segment in golf is junior girls.

18, what did you think of Rory last week? He loves those soggy pin cushion fairways and greens.

After rain delay, Jin Young teed off at the perfect time. It was cold and windy but she got all eighteen holes in. She may not finish tomorrow, but when she does the weather should be better.
Now to her golf round she had her A- game, because she missed the first green. She hit a great shot but it flew the green, for her only missed green. Got up and down for par and never had a putt over three feet for par after that. She hit great approach shots on the front, but didn't make any birdies. But the back nine were a different story because she made four birdies. Her eagle chip shot on the par five eighteen hit the pin and left her with a inch tap in. When she is dialed in with her approach shots, as she usually is. As they say, she is worth the price of admission, an amazing iron player.

By the way they changed the course layout. I think because before the spectators had to walk so far. When they got off the buss or back on the buss. They used to drop people off behind the tenth green. Now they are dropped off and picked up near one tee and eighteen green. Now number one is a longer walk from the practice area, however.

Yes, they've been mentioning the changed course layout a lot on TV and during the player interviews.

Round 1 Rain, rain, rain. But the morning rounds did finish and the afternoon waves got started... Jin Young and Jenny Shin are the notables on the leaderboard so far. Jin Young seemed lackluster during the coverage, but made four birdies on the back nine to move to 4 under, two back. Inbee and Na Yeon both inside the top 20 at 2 under. In Gee, So Yeon, Sung Hyun and Lucky Six are all just a few holes into their rounds, and all sit around even to -1. Sisters Hwaiting!

Round 1 is complete. It looks like Youngin Chun shot a 67! I hope at the very least she makes the cut, she is four above the cut line at this point and tied for 6th! [EDIT: they updated it to 4 under 68. Still a great round for her!] So Yeon -3 (but made bogey on the last), In Gee and Lucky Six -2, Sung Hyun -4. Which teen will have the better week - Yealimi Noh in Korea or Youngin here? They are both in about the same spot on the leaderboard right now. Sisters hwaiting!

"the answer to all your questions is 'money' " - don ohlmeyer
At the Open, the GC teases and headlines were about Korda being one back after the first couple rounds, overnight Saturday is was about Lexi being one back. No mention of Higa ( the SOLO leader) or any Asian types.
So i hate to stick up for them. But they are contractually committed to what they can and more importantly what they CAN'T do. Especially during the Majors. It's part of their contract with the USGA/Masters/etc.., they cannot show any worthwhile programming to compete against The US Open. (and especially NOT other golf) Cue up Will Smith. I sure hope that GC OWNS the rights to Bagger Vance at this point. It's aired 50+ times a year. It's their go to when... "they should just shut off the lights and go off air". I agree
Although, their new darling is "From The Rough". Which is actually even MORE completely unrealistic about golf than Bagger Vance. And that's saying something!
Same goes for the folks on the ground. For them to pick up and start broadcasting hours after a rain delay = MASSIVE Union overtime rates. Which is not cost effective with LPGA/Web.com/Seniors non Majors ( even if they were allowed) Of course for the USGA Women's Open, no prob. Extra TV window, extra streaming, camera folks overtime, robotic cameras to catch pics of lightning? no problem
I'm actually surprised they are allowed to broadcast as much LPGA as they are this week. I guess because of the time zones and because it's only up against FS1 ( which is minor )
It's the same with ESPN... their "Bagger Vance" is "Cheerleading Competitions". If there is Cheerleading on ESPN, that means there are NFL/NBA/CFB games currently running on a major network.
EDIT: Just checked the schedule. You can look forward to six Feherty's in a row tonight. That's right: David Feherty, the guy who spent 2.5 weeks in Korea for the Olympics but DIDN'T do a show on Se Ri.
