So Yeon has changed putters, from the Scotty Cameron blade back to the mallet. Also I hadn't noticed that she is now using the Callaway driver, instead of the Honma. >she is now using the Callaway driver, instead of the Honma. Always interesting to see what pros use when they are not being paid. Mike

Corrections:
Sorry, folks, I misread some of the results yesterday, so some of the scores I posted were not right. Must have been later at night than I thought! There were actually several upsets.
Ji Hyun Oh (3) actually lost her first round match to Hyun Su Kim (62) 3 & 1. So Young Lee (5) lost her match to So Hye Park (60) 2 & 1 Da Yeon Lee (7) lost 1 up to So Yeon Nam
It looks like I got everything else right...

So Yeon has changed putters, from the Scotty Cameron blade back to the mallet. Also I hadn't noticed that she is now using the Callaway driver, instead of the Honma. I didn't notice when she made the change. Edit: Since So Yeon changed drivers, for information purpose, nothing else. Compared her full year 2018 average diving distance and accuracy. To 2019 partial year. 2018 driving accuracy rank 82... average distance rank 38. 2019 driving accuracy rank 134... average distance rank 91. Probably doesn't mean anything, just a thought.
She was playing her old Honma at the Mediheal. With such a large dropoff this season, I don't see where it can hurt to try something new.

Thanks, I just noticed the change this tournament. This was the first time that I paid attention, because of the putter change. You are right, a change wouldn't hurt, because of her start to the year.

I thought that So Yeon played great, but somewhat unlucky. Her second shot ended up under the bunker lip on a par five, left of the green. From the angle she hit it from, I don't know how that happened. A birdie putt in the middle of the hole popped out. Other putts just missing.
However, Min Sun Kim, not a good putter made putts from everywhere.

Song Yi Ahn (below) only needs a tie against Hye Yong Choi to win Group 14. Who would she play after that? I haven't seen any brackets.

Round 3
Group 1: Inbee Park (1) 2 & 1 over Eun Soo Jang (32) Da Been Heo (64) 5 & 3 over Eu Bin Lim (33) Advances: Inbee Park
Good try by Eun Soo Jang, but Inbee wins again
Group 2: Char Young Kim (31) 2 & 1 over So Yeon Ryu (2) Hee Jung Lim (R)(63) 1 up over Min Sun Kim (34) Advances: Char Young Kim
Char Young loves this tournament. Major upset that she takes out So Yeon Ryu and advances
Group 3: Ji Hyun Oh (3) 1 up over Seul Ki Jung (30) Hyun Su Kim (62) 3 & 2 over Na Lin Ahn (35) Advances: Hyun Su Kim
Another upset, with the lowest ranked player advancing. Ji Hyun finally won a match, but it was too late.
Group 4: Hye Jin Choi (4) 3 & 2 over Eun Woo Choi (29) Yu Na Park (36) 1 up over Hyun Ji Ryu (61) Advances: Yu Na Park
Another upset! Hye Jin won twice, but lost to Park yesterday and that was the difference.
Group 5: So Young Lee (5) tied So Yi Kim (28) Min Kyung Choi (37) 3 & 2 over So Hye Park (60) Advances: So Hye Park
Park lost to Choi and they were tied in points. I think they had a playoff and Park won. Anyways, ANOTHER upset, with So Young Lee finishing fourth in her group.
Group 6: Chae Yoon Park (27) 3 & 1 over A Lim Kim (6) Ye Rim Choi (38) 2 & 1 over Ji Hyun Lee 2 (59) Advances: Chae Yoon Park
Yup, ANOTHER upset. Kim's round 3 loss cost her
Group 7: Da Yeon Lee (7) 3 & 2 over Ji Young Park (26) Shin Young Park (39) 1 up over Soo Yeon Nam (58) Advances: Shin Young Park
Another upset. Park's narrow win over Nam allowed her to edge Da Yeon.
Group 8: Ha Na Jang (8) tied Ju Young Park (25) Ayean Cho (R)(57) 6 & 5 over Ellie Na (40) Advances: Ayean Cho
An upset technically, but Cho was a sleeper agent, clearly the top player in this group and only low ranked because she was a rookie.
Group 9: Cecilia Cho (9) 5 & 4 oover Ran Hong (24) Hyo Rin Lee (41) 5 & 4 over Shi Hyun Ahn (56) Advances: Cecilia Cho
It took a playoff, with Cho, Hong and Lee all tied at 2-0-1, but Cho advances.
Group 10: Advances: Bo Mi Park 2 (55) (another upset!)
Group 11: Advances: Ka Ram Choi (22)
Group 12: Advances: Ji Hyun Kim 2 (12)
Group 13: Advances: Ji Young Kim (13)
Group 14: Advances: Song Yi Ahn (46) (she was undefeated. Gyeol Park was 0-1-2)
Group 15: Advances: So Yeon Park (47) (her great season continues)
Group 16: Ji Hyun Kim (16) 1 up over Min Sung Ha (17) Hae Rym Kim (48) tied Seon Hwa Lee (49)
Advances: Ji Hyun Kim in a playoff over Ha
Only 5 of 16 seeds advanced! Youch!

Upcoming brackets for Round of 16/quarterfinals
Upper left Quarter:
Inbee Park (1) vs. Ji Hyun Kim (16) Ayean Cho (R)(57) vs. Cecilia Cho (9)
As if this tournament wasn't hurting enough for stars, four of the top remaining players are all in the same bracket. Inbee is still the player to beat, but man, look at those others! Any one of these ladies could win this whole thing.
Lower Left quarter:
Yu Na Park (36) vs. Ji Young Kim (13) So Hye Park (60) vs. Ji Hyun Kim 2 (12)
My sentimental fave is So Hye Park, but Yu Na Park is having a great week. Ji Young Kim is probably the best possibility here at the moment.
Upper Right Quarter: Char Young Kim (31) vs. So Yeon Park (47) Shin Young Park (39) vs. Bo Mi Park (55)
Char Young is the only non-Park in this bracket. She is playing really well and won this 2 years ago.
Lower Right Bracket Hyun Su Kim (62) vs. Song Yi Ahn (46) Chae Yoon Park (27) vs. Ka Ram Choi (22)
All the seeds wiped out here. I don't know; Song Yi Ahn?

Third round highlights

Post by SoYeonFan on May 17, 2019 17:25:04 GMT
So Yeon and Char Young was back and fourth on the first eight holes. Char Young went two up on nine and ten. So Yeon birdied eleven and twelve to even the match. But then Char Young2 birdied four of the next five holes. While So Yeon made bogey on two of those holes and that was it. So Yeon had her moments, but she is not quite there yet.
I noticed that So Yeon didn't seem to talk shots over with her caddie. They hardly ever walked side by side like she did with Tom Watson. Unless she did it off Camera. She has always took charge of her own game, so it might be nothing.
A Lim Kim bless her heart, lost last four holes to Chae Yoon Park.
I thought that I saw a caddie that looked like Dean Herden. He didn't have on the lamp shade hat, so it probably wasn't him.
