If I'm reading the KLPGA website correctly, the first Doosan Match Play was in 2008 (won by Bo Kyeong Kim)...so this will be the 12th match play in a row...too bad the LPGA couldn't duplicate this accomplishment. I loved attending the 1st round of the old match play at Hamilton Farm GC...about 10 times more drama displayed by the players versus a "normal" tournament. Unfortunately, the GIC was deathly afraid of the "wrong" players advancing in this format. The KLPGA has less of that problem since everyone is Korean!
Apparently there is no lifetime exemption for past champions. Seul Ah Yoon is not in the field, but I remember her winning this one year...I looked it up and it was 2014. I think that was the year Sky Kim made some miraculous chip-ins and putts to win in the semi-finals, before losing to Yoon in the finals, who was an underrated player in her prime. Yoon turned 33 in March...time to get a Berlitz Japanese book and enter JLPGA q-school for some second career gravy before it's too late.

This event has some great history. In 2017, Inbee Park was trying to win her first career pro event in Korea. She got to the finals but lost to Char Young Kim. In 2018, Inbee was back, made it to the finals, and this time barely beat A Lim Kim for her first KLPGA title!
The greatest playing of this tournament, though, has to be the 2009 edition. That year, the finals were So Yeon Ryu vs. He Yong Choi, the woman who had beaten Ryu for Rookie of the Year the previous season. It went to *nine* playoff holes before Ryu final beat her, 7 hours and 12 minutes after they had started. And they had both played a semi round that morning! Ryu went on to win four times in 2009; it was her breakthrough season.
In Gee Chun also had her first big breakthrough at this event, losing to Ha Na Jang (of all people!) in the 2013 finals. A few weeks later In Gee won the Korea Women's Open.

I usually only put the notable past winners on the thread. Because some tournaments has a long history and it will be too many names to include.

Remember that the way this works is, the ladies are split into 16 groups of four each and each player players every other player in her group. The player with the best record in each group advances to the round of 16, and from there it's straight match play elimination.
The final seedings are (Seeded player has the seed # for her group; for instance, the #1 seed in the entire event is Inbee, who is listed as 'seed' in group 1).
Group 1: Seed: Inbee Park Others: Eun Soo Jang, Eun Bin Lim and Da Been Heo (Inbee vs. two of the three amigos!)
Group 2: Seed: So Yeon Ryu Others: Char Young Kim, Min Sun Kim, Hee Jung Lim (Ouch! This is a tough bracket for So Yeon!)

Your fantasy matchup of A Lim Kim and Seung Hyun Lee. Would have one of the longest drivers, A Lim against one of the shortest drivers on tour. However Seung Hyun would be first to hit into the green, to pressure A Lim.

So Yeon has changed putters, from the Scotty Cameron blade back to the mallet. Also I hadn't noticed that she is now using the Callaway driver, instead of the Honma. I didn't notice when she made the change.
Edit: Since So Yeon changed drivers, for information purpose, nothing else. Compared her full year 2018 average diving distance and accuracy. To 2019 partial year.
2018 driving accuracy rank 82... average distance rank 38. 2019 driving accuracy rank 134... average distance rank 91. Probably doesn't mean anything, just a thought.
