Seaview flew completely under the radar for golf course nerds this week. A Hugh Wilson (Merion) and Donald Ross collaboration. I thought it looks beautiful and played like a proper golf course the last two days when the wind was up. Maybe it dried out a little.
Completely right!!! Detractors who are fixated on 6190 yards have no idea what these players are up against when the wind picks up.
There was overnight rain Wednesday night and a brief but heavy shower that hit the area around 4:30 PM on Thursday. I didn't see any standing water on Friday, but I assume the greens were more receptive than normal, leading to those low 1st round scores.
Tactical shot of the year...200 yards to the pin...hit a PW after adjusting for flyer lie and 30 MPH wind at your back. You can see Lexi's Cobra S2 Forged irons have customized sky blue paint on the back. I saw them at the practice green earlier in the week...the soles were completely unmarked, as if they were brand new. Maybe Cobra gave her a lifetime supply of sets...this model was introduced in 2009!
Sakura Yokomine on Sunday...I don't know if small Japanese guy w/ moustach on her bag was her husband or not. I'll be writing about her Friday round later.

Round 3 Well, that was a bit disappointing, wasn't it? I have to give Six credit: she didn't have her very best stuff, but boy, is she a fighter. She pulled off some fantastic up and downs to try to stay in it, but eventually she was bound to pay the price and did. Great birdies on 16 + 18, she just needed Thompson to not make an eagle on the final hole, which of course she did. But a 70 in the final round in tough conditions is not bad at all. And she won the tournament she needed to win last week, so this would have been more a bonus than anything. Nice job Six! Hwaiting!!, and get ready to kick more butt at KPMG!

Sounded like Six had some decent support outside the ropes. She also did pretty good the previous time she played in New Jersey. She is definitely doing more autograph duty after her rounds that's for sure! https://www.instagram.com/p/ByhSVVvlUoj

She is definitely doing more autograph duty after her rounds that's for sure! https://www.instagram.com/p/ByhSVVvlUoj She didn't just have "decent" support outside the ropes, she was a big hit and had the second biggest gallery all 3 days. Yes, about 75% of her followers were Asians, but there were quite a few non-Asians following her also (including myself for 27 holes). She certainly made a fan of myself (see my earlier post about my one on one interview with her). She is instantly likeable and you can't help but love that big smile. I know her blond hair isn't liked by many of her Asian followers, but in some strange way it has attracted many American's to take notice of her. When I asked about her hair she expressed "wanting to fit in". So Yeon Ryu will always be my favorite Asian player, but when this girl learns to speak the language better, and gets more comfortable here in the states, she has a chance of matching her popularity.

Good job Tony telling it like it was regarding Lucky 6...I update my avatar with a Round One pic I took on my phone after her round. I followed her last seven holes on Friday and she picked up non-Asian fans along the way. Heck, it was not 30 or 40 Asians who held out their hands between the 14th and 15th holes at Bedminster so Hye Jin Choi could run by and slap them (I don't think this was captured by Fox TV). People who attend LPGA tournaments will give you a chance if you're shooting low, regardless of where the player is from. People who opine about the LPGA 100% of the time from behind their computer screens, well that's a different story.
Here's an unsolicited endorsement I overheard during pro-am day on Thursday. A course caddie was carrying two of the amateur bags past the practice green in front of the hotel and said this to someone:
Dude, Amy Yang is sick. Her team sucked, but she must have shot 10-under on her own ball alone...look up Amy Yang.

This was the photo Lucky Six posted after she won Q-Series. I mean really: what is there not to love about this? (I just hope she gets a chance to do this on the 72nd green the next time she wins an event). https://www.instagram.com/p/Bpw98h-lKf7 I added the following: Looking through the Q-Series thread, I also had a few other funny and prescient comments:
