golfweek.com/2019/04/25/lpga-ana-inspiration-date-augusta-national-amateur/The reality of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur and its impact on the ANA Inspiration seem clear to tournament producer International Management Group and sponsor All Nippon Airways: lower TV ratings, lower on-course attendance, a concerned title sponsor and increased talk of moving the ANA Inspiration away from its traditional date during the first week of April. <snip> ANWA earned a 0.9 rating and 1.19 million viewers on NBC, making it the most-watched women’s golf event on TV since the 2016 U.S. Women’s Open. The ANA Inspiration, on the other hand, saw a 42 percent drop in ratings for Golf Channel. Sports Media Watch reported that Sunday’s ANA broadcast on April 7 drew 194,000 viewers, down from 437,000 in 2018 and 551,000 in 2017.

One of the biggest reason for the ANA or any LPGA golf Tournament low numbers. Is the Media coverage for the LPGA Tournaments. There is hardly any coverage of the LPGA unless it's a local Tournament.
However the Media was all over that Tournament down in Georgia. The Networks didn't hesitate to salivate to cover it. They didn't care about the Amateurs, it was all about the golf Course.
Not to mention the Golf channel only cares about a select few to highlight in coverage. On or off the course.
Can you imagine if there were no Forums covering Ladies Golf. How little you could find about these wonderful young ladies on the tours.

As someone who used to go to this every year. Drive Chip and Putt is when the damage really started, ANWA put the final nails in the coffin. I wasn't there this year, but from the TV coverage it looked the most empty i had ever seen it since i started going in 2004.
The final Kraft in 2014, Golf Channel sent EVERYONE to be onsite. In 2015 there were 60% less GC staff. They were in Augusta to cover the new darling : DCP
They are going to have to backup Founders, KIA and Dinah one week earlier. And the LPGA will have to have TWO weeks off for the Masters.
My favorite part, Augusta actually publicly said "Oh, we aren't doing any damage to Palm Springs. Because ANWA is on Saturday and DCP is in the morning". I won't say "idiots", Augusta knew exactly the damage they would inflict and couldn't care less.

Wow!! Disaster. I can guarantee you it will be waay worse next year. Now the keep the LPGA the hell off Augusta National ANWA is a known entity. And it doesn't feed Palm Springs interest, it feeds Drive Chip and Putt. The double whammy.
That event is barely alive as it is, this could actually kill it. I might even think about September, when they used to hold the Samsung Invitational.
I think it's only a matter of time before the first two rounds of ANWA start being aired. So unless Augusta National gets on board with promoting Palm Springs ( ha ha ha, as if!) or they hurry up with Golf Channel Two they are doomed.
NOTE: Augusta hasn't just clobbered The Dinah, there is also an amateur event in Palm Springs that they have already essentially snuffed out of existence.

Unbolt the Dinah statue and cart it off to Wilshire. She probably played a lot more rounds there than at Mission Hills anyway.
The LA Open is what a Major should be.
