Round One just started at the Royal Golf Club, about 40 miles NE of Tokyo.
Pre-tourney pics:
The Hou sisters of Taiwan
Team Kiwi
Jeeno Jat is back to defend her title.
Japan's Yuna Nishimura, Yuri Yoshida and Yuka Yasuda
The camera-shy Koreans (grey sweaters and blue caps) were too busy WORKING. I looked at various online Korean sites and I saw no reporting of this event.

I saw a little of the broadcast and they said the pin placements were generous to the players...but do not expect that to continue.

I watched about an hour of this event and really enjoyed it. Amy Hong was really impressive. She looks a little like a junior version of Ayean Cho. They didn't show Ye Won Lee as far as I could tell. The other Sister I'm interested in seeing is Uhljin Seo, who shot an even par on day one, but who did really well at the Queen Sirikit Cup recently. Hopefully she'll rally and make the coverage. Just a couple other observations: If they can show this event, they should certainly be able to show KLPGA events on Golf Channel. That tour actually features players from time to time that would be familiar to Western viewers (Shi Hyun Ahn, Ha Na Jang, and this week Lucky Six), as well as players who soon should be familiar to them, based on how good they are! Did anyone catch the pathetic moment when the Asian male commentator referred to Inbee Park as Shanshan Feng? He also called Jennifer Song 'Amy Yang'. Of course he got Lexi Thompson and Hataoka correct. I mean really, how can you not know the difference between Inbee and Feng if you know anything at all about women's golf??? (for those who didn't watch, they had a segment where current LPGA pros reminisced about their amateur days. The male commentator afterwards misidentified Inbee and Jennifer).

GC would never broadcast any event that doesn't have English commentary. They could have an overnight interpreter/commenter in the GC studios, but I think that's above Mike Ritz's pay grade.

Thursday's goat track turned into Friday's minefield ... the weather may have played a part in that ... the best score was Yuka Yasuda's 74. The top-50 plus ties made the cut which was +13.

Brutal stuff! I tuned in just in time to see Hong, who at the time had a three shot lead, three putt from three feet. Still, she managed to hang in there and still has the lead. Good luck to the Sisters tomorrow!

Hong struggled today, but somehow hung onto a share of second and will be in the final group tomorrow. Yasuda was having a mediocre day, then ran off a birdie-chip-in eagle-birdie-birdie finish to take the lead by two shots. Thitikul is tied with Hong. 1 Japan YASUDA, Yuka -4 71-74-67 212 T2 Thailand THITIKUL, Atthaya -2 65-78-71 214 - South Korea HONG, Yaeeun -2 66-75-73 214 T4 Japan NISHIMURA, Yuna Even 68-78-70 216 - South Korea LEE, Ye Won Even 67-79-70 216 - Australia KAY, Becky Even 64-79-73 216 T7 Australia KIM, Grace -6 70-81-66 217 - China YIN, Xiaowen 67-77-73 217 Another Korean, Ye Won Lee, was briefly under par and is just four back heading into the final round. She reminds me a little of a young Ji Hyun Oh, while Hong still looks like Ayean Cho's little sis to me. Aussie Grace Lee, another Sister, shot a 66 to move onto the first page of the leaderboard. She even sat in the commentary box for a while and has a very thick Aussie accent. Good luck to Korea tomorrow. Hwaiting!!!

Couldn't get the JLPGA broadcast to work, so I switched over to this and Yuka Yasuda is destroying everyone...just rolled in a birdie at the par-5 16th to take an 8-shot lead at -11...also surprised to see her outdrive Attaya on #16...waiting to see if she'll do it again at the par-4 18th.

Couldn't bring myself to watch this massacre! Congrats to Yasuda. The Sisters still did OK, with Hong finishing 4th and Ye Won Lee 3rd. A third Sister, Ye Been Sohn, crept into 7th. So, all in all a good week for these players, and I'll be keeping my eye out to see how they do going forward!
