Just my opinion about So Yeon playing in the tournament. However I don't speak for So Yeon, it's just not my favorite kind of tournament.
I don't think that 3putt should ever be welcomed back. All he did were posted negative things about the golfers and also people on this site. Again just how I feel about welcoming him back. But also not my decision to make. I guess that I have the right to have an opinion.

I hope that So Yeon skip the tournament and prepare for the real golf. She needs to focus on trying to get back to number one. Also concentrate on trying to win Majors. Time is running out for her to make the LPGA HOF, because she may not play long enough. I don't follow you at all...this is a real tournament. They'll give out HOF points to the winner, just like they did when Pak and C. Kim won the old Tournament of Champions 14-17 years ago in Alabama. Yes, it is a pain in the neck for the Asians, Aussies and Kiwis to fly halfway around the world for one event, but suck it up, you'll have a guaranteed paycheck that'll cover your costs by plenty. Any qualified player who skips this one should be privately and publicly raked over the coals. Well, my own personal opinion is that this won't be too interesting to *watch*. Because I can already see them spending too much time covering the celebrities on GolfChannel, and when they show the women, it will probably be the Americans or the players I don't care about anyway. To me, it makes more sense for the Koreans to stay in their training bubble for a few more weeks, concentrate on getting ready for the meat of the season, and play in Australia, a much shorter commute for them.

It looks like both So Yeon Ryu and Sung Hyun Park will skip Tournament of Champions; the same should be true for In Gee, Inbee and Jin Young 박성현 “5승·세계 1위 탈환”… 이정은 “신인상 꼭 품을래요”

It appears the field is set at 31; Jessica Korda, Minjee Lee, Haru Nomura and the 5 Koreans will skip.

It appears the field is set at 31; Jessica Korda, Minjee Lee, Haru Nomura and the 5 Koreans will skip. Unfortunate. If this is actually the final field, nearly 1 in 4 qualifiers is blowing off this event. Yes, it may be a long haul for some but how grueling can a first class flight be for a 20-something athlete? To those who think this Mickey Mouse event with D List celebrities should just go away, you'll probably get your wish. I hope Lexi brings her puppy, Leo, with her for the post-round interviews.

jumpcutLexi can beat those 30 other players, can't she? You're probably not a math major; it's closer to 1 in 5 than 1 in 4. Regardless of player support; this event will be another Coates Golf Championship; given the financial strength of sponsors. It won't last for more than one or two years.

Maybe J. Korda thinks Florida highway drivers are crazy...it's 104 miles from Bradenton to Lake Buena Vista.
Haru Nomura stunk last year...but she's skipping a free invite to a limited-field event...makes perfect sense to me.
I hope they didn't send out the amateur invitations too soon...."uh, sorry your pro decided to not to show up, so just stay home."
That's one HOF point down the drain if you don't play. Oh yeah, somebody here mentioned Ryu and HOF in the same paragraph (that's definitely original...I had never read, heard, or thought of that before). By my count, she has 9 points and needs 18 more to make it....hmm, good luck with that!!! I think she'll have to rely on the geezer committee far down the road.
For historical perspective, I looked up the last TOC event run by LPGA, which I think was The Mitchell Company LPGA Tournament of Champions of 2007 (correct me if I'm wrong). As usual, lpga.com was of no value...got the info I needed from Wikipedia, Google News Archive and a Japanese golf site. Creamer birdied her last seven holes of Round One and never looked back, winning by 8 shots at -20. The field qualifiers consisted of all LPGA winners from 2004-2007, plus any active HOF players. They had 35 players...I don't know if any qualifiers declined. They played it Nov. 8-11 in Alabama...it was scheduled between the Mizuno in Japan and the ADT Championship in Florida.

The old Tournament of Champions had several advantages over this event. First of all, IIRC, it was the week before the Tour Championship, so no one had to make a special trip to attend. Secondly, no celeb nonsense.
Why couldn't this event have been scheduled as perhaps the first US event of the year after the Asian swing? They would have gotten a better turnout, guaranteed. Or perhaps the week before CME, instead of one of those Chinese events that always gets canceled anyways?
I don't count So Yeon out for Hall of Fame; she certainly has the skill, and contends often enough, to have 3 - 4 win seasons. Three or four of those could get her in. Inbee made the largest % of her HOF points in just three seasons. Having said that, I still think it's a long shot.

I think that you are referring to me who mentioned So Yeon name with the HOF. I believe that I stated that she probably would not play long enough to get in. Only that I hope that she can get back to number one and win Majors. I an glad that Jessica is also skipping it, so I have no reason to watch it now.

philknjJessica needs to drive 104 miles; In Gee and Sung Hyun are training right there in Orlando. The Koreans have rigid training and playing schedules mapped out through the year, not even God can change it.

S***, that makes it even worse. I don't know what the desired field amount should be...next year, they may have to take winners from the last four seasons, like the old days.
Regarding Ryu, she'll probably have to play maniacally into her 40s at a reasonably high level (like C. Kerr) to have any chance at the HOF. Even Kerr (22 HOF points) must realize what a huge mountain 27 points is at her age. So far, there hasn't been a Korean who had the ability and desire to play the LPGA into her 40s...Pak tried to do it, but she went downhill after 35 (she was already in the HOF and had nothing left to prove anyway). It won't surprise me in the least of Kerr wins this...she knows it'll be the easiest HOF point of her career.

I don't mind if Cristie wins; but of course only if Nelly Korda doesn't.
Nelly certainly can win and start her march towards America's No. 1 and eventually world's No. 1.
By the way, I suspect Ariya's best days are numbered because she doesn't take care her body like a So Yeon or a Lucky 6; her God given talent can only go so far.

I only mentioned HOF as something that would be hard for her to accomplish. Along with the things that she could accomplish.
Not taking anything away from Inbee because she is more than a worthy member of the HOF. However if So Yeon had come over to the U.S early and competed like she did. I have no doubt that she would be a lot closer, barring injury, to the LPGA HOF. After all she did win nine tournaments on the KLPGA tour. There was great competition there including Ji Yai Shin, HA Neul Kim, Bo Mee Lee, Hee Kyung Seo, Soo Jin Yang, Yoon Kyung Heo and Jeong Eun5 Lee. Too name a few.
I have to mention that she won on the Cactus Tour for her first Professional win. Because I was there watching her.
Also European win and JLPGA Major.
