The link above has the latest KLPGA news items. The Oct. 31 posting says the tour will play in Taiwan on Jan. 17-20, 2019...called ‘Taiwan Women's Golf Open presented by SBS Golf’. The field will be 108 and I think 40 spots will be reserved for KLPGAers. They'll be at Hsin Yi GC, which is at the southern end of the island.

This is interesting; it jives with KLPGA's stated goal to be the No. 1 women's tour in the world by 2028.

I wasn't planning to mention this, but I guess you also noticed the Nov. 26 new item with the link to a 44-page pdf. doc...on page 8, there's are progress chart with the translated caption "Global #1 Tour" achieved during the 2026-28 time period...35 tournaments being one of the achievements. This is utterly ridiculous!!! Forget about outdoing the LPGA...I don't see how they can ever surpass the JLPGA (currently at 38 tournaments with more average money for each). The KLPGA might have the best players on a per capita basis, but that certainly doesn't translate into having the best tour at any time in the future.

philknjIt’s the thoughts that count; KLPGA May never be No. 1, but they aim to be there.

They are the tour that has been growing the fastest over the past ten years, though. If that were to continue, and they reached a certain tipping point, they might be able to draw away some of the big money (Korean) sponsors who support the LPGA.
Like you, I doubt it will happen, but I don't think it's ludicrous. I recall when Rosie Jones predicted there would be more than 30 Koreans on tour one day; I thought she was nuts, but it happened less than five years after she made that prediction.

KLPGA at a cross road '인기+세계화' 굿샷 날린 KLPGA…내실 다지기는 여전히 '숙제'This year, KLPGA tour, which was gradually opened to foreign players, was evaluated to have achieved some degree of globalization. The KLPGA Tour opened four tournaments this season outside of Korea, including two in China, Brunei, Vietnam. Next year will be the addition of the Taiwan tournament, and more or less tournaments will be held outside of Korea this year. Seven out of fifteen foreign athletes who won the 2019 season seed qualification through the International Qualifying Tournament (IQT) actually supported and expressed high interest in the KLPGA tour. Genevieve Irenein (Malaysia) and Chien Phong (Taiwan), who were selected through a survival program earlier, were also on the KLPGA tour this year, qualifying as tourists. Even with good content, the KLPGA tour scale has been reduced to 30 conventions (20.7 billion won) last year and 28 smaller conventions (20.6 billion won) this year after peaking at 32 conventions in 2016 (total prize money of 21.1 billion won). It is also predicted that the next year, when the economic outlook is uncertain, will be a turning point for KLPGA tour.

By comparison, JLPGA seems to be the most stable among the Big 3 of LPGA, JLPGA and KLPGA.
I'm surprised KLPGA's schedule has been shrinking since 2016; playing overseas is not an option but a necessity. Losing In Gee Chun, Sung Hyun Park and Jin Young Ko over the years has taken its toll.
LPGA, with USGA behind it, seems to have the most potential; especially with regarding to purse escalation.

It's too early to start a tournament thread on this one...the KLPGA website doesn't have it up yet and the TLPGA website has only a placeholder. However, I discovered that the TLPGA will have a qualifier tournament for 50 players at Hsin Yi Golf Club on Christmas Day (WTH?!)...the top-10 gets into the main tournament in January. The field is posted and almost all of them are unknowns...the exceptions are Doris Chen (will foot wedge Mommy be there?) and Ssu-Chia Cheng. One Korean will tee it up, Jin Hee Park...there are two KLPGA Dream Tour players with that name.
