I don't agree that the LPGA should have to openly show support for the LBGTQ. What happened with Althea Gibson does not have anything to do with how the LPGA operate. They welcome everyone that qualify for the tour regardless of their sexual preference or their nationality. As long as they don't discriminate against them, it should be a non issue.
Just my opinion as a long time LPGA fan and supporter.

Anya Alvarez is little more than a shit stirrer but I think she makes a decent point about the LPGA at least acknowledging LGBT. At this point in time, when you have even the most mainstream of corporations such as Wal-Mart openly endorsing gay pride events, the LPGA's silence actually makes a louder statement. That statement being more or less "WE ARE SIMPLY AFRAID TO GO THERE, LEAVE US ALONE". The stereotype of gay women golfers is officially archaic but I am assuming that LGBT on LPGA is at least proportional to that in the entire population.

I just read that Rousey got inducted into the Hall of Fame....For what? 8 fights and she lost two. Recognition and acknowledgement should come after accomplishments, not for being in a group. I mean should I be acknowledge because I was born ugly? The effort for being ugly was zero. I think the LPGA treats all groups equally. Lets keep politics in Congress.

My two cents (and treading the line lightly to avoid making this a political discussion): I don't think they are required to mention it at all, but it personally wouldn't bother me any more than the women's leadership stuff at the KPMG or the various pro-military gestures like having soldiers at some tournaments. I'm not gay, a woman or ex-military, but if they want to cater to those fans, more power to them. I agree that it is very curious that they do next to nothing to recognize LGBTQ fans, especially when compared to other sports organizations or corporations these days. Even a place like Disneyland does more in that regard. I think you are spot-on as to why: namely, they had a long history of being painted as a heavily lesbian sports organization (both membership and fan base) and I think it made them gun shy. To me, it makes them look weirdly neurotic that they are seemingly going out of the way to avoid the L word.

I usually have a good memory for names regarding women's golf, but this one completely eluded me. Ex-LPGA touring pro? I had to look that up...yes, somehow she got to the big show in 2014 where she was 125th in scoring average and 150th in official money. She played the Symetra Tour for 2-3 years before that and not particularly well. It looks like she quit touring golf altogether after 2014. The thought of blowing up balloons and shooting off fireworks for switch-hitters on the LPGA Tour is ridiculous...even Bivens wouldn't go for an idea that dumb if she were still in charge.
Anya had one significant accomplishment...was in front of Lydia Ko by one shot going into the final round of the 2014 ISPS Handa NZ Women's Open...then she gagged like Luca Brasi on Sunday...creating the perfect finish.
Funny note: Her IG posting on the morning of that Sunday round (Feb. 1, 2014) said she would be playing with Lydia Ko and Beth Daniels. I assume she meant to say Beth Allen.
