JGTO is the Japan men's tour...April 12-15 is the first week both tours will go head-to-head in Japan. The men haven't played since January, when they were in Singapore and Myanmar. How do the galleries compare by tour? I'll find out later if I can get up and stay awake for JGTO: aqstream.com/jp/tvt/TV-TokyoRounds 3 & 4 will be on Saturday and Sunday at 4 PM (Japan time). ******* There is a big social media difference. Gettyimages has been posting JLPGA pics from all its events for the last few years, but they have NOTHING this week for the men, who are playing the Token Homemate Cup. The ALBA golf website had 419 pics for JLPGA on Friday, but only 218 and 236 for the men's Thursday and Friday rounds...and the men have a bigger field, 132 vs. 108. The men play for more money, but the women will have about 50% more tournaments by year-end. ****** The men have one huge needle-mover this week, Japan's original teen wunderkind, Ryo Ishikawa. He shot 63-68 and leads by four shots going into Saturday. Here's a somewhat crude video from this course's strange-looking range on Thursday. Ryo has the white vest and yellow pants...they showed some of the other players, but the camera kept returning to Ryo, and I don't blame them. The only other familiar face I saw was Y.E. Yang (17:44 thru 17:48), who missed the cut by one stroke.

I was partially awake for the Round 3 broadcast...bad day for Ryo, as he shot +1, while almost everyone else did not...he trails by four shots and is tied for second with another ex-PGA Tour player, Shingo Katayama.
The TV Tokyo broadcast is tape delayed. However, it appears that this tour also does a live 1st hole broadcast on another channel. At 2:23:00, Ryo begins his walk to the tee:

I got my time zones mixed up and tuned in when the last group was in the 18th fairway. However, someone posted the broadcast on Youtube: It made news when the JGTO announced a 2018 sked that had one less tournament than 2017. There were also reports of declining TV ratings, although the production values look first-rate. I have no explanations, but it can't be from a lack of spectators...the grandstand they had behind the 18th green was completely jammed and at least double the size of what the JLPGA set up in Kumamoto. I love these pics...Atomu Shigenaga (-12, 272) is a first-time winner at age 29...the old guy is tour boss Isao Aoki. I HATE these pics...stupid mask! MAN UP!!! If star buzz sells this tour, then Ryo Ishikawa (-11, 273) is still The Man. The JGTO is fortunate that Ryo will play in Japan full-time in 2018. I don't why Ryo took his lumps on the PGA Tour, but it can't be from a lack of power. On the downhill par-4 18th (451 yards), he played safe (maybe too safe) and pummeled his driving iron (Callaway Steelhead XR Pro 3-iron w/ graphite shaft), leaving him 163 yards to the pin.
