Yes, plan on seeing them both there and the great cougar! Fano is deep into Instagram, but he did say something about making his triumphant return to "Seoul Sisters" during the ANA. What tournaments are going to? No plans....maybe a last minute decision to go to Portland.

Going to try and get there Tuesday evening and hang with cougar. But I fly into SF on Sunday so I'll be 500 miles away and I still don't know what I'm going to do about transportation for the month. If you S*CK UP enough to SYRfan.....he could pick you up and drop you off at your flea bag motel. You'll show up like a BIG SHOT at the valet parking. Or...do as Icecat did....take a bus...hopefully there's no bus strike like he encountered....what a GONG SHOW. Bummer for Icecat! What did he do? Was this the KIA at Aviara in Carlsbad? What year? Icecat did you write about it on this site? I'd like to read all about your escapes.

Bummer for Icecat! What did he do? Was this the KIA at Aviara in Carlsbad? What year? Icecat did you write about it on this site? I'd like to read all about your escapes. It was in the old defunct threads.....it was hilarious...I peed myself reading it. I believe he was in Phoenix....I think he decided to use the bus and when he got there, a bus strike or a work to rule occurred....and I think he couldn't rent a car at the last moment because of the bus strike.....low inventory. Maybe scabs and management were filling in...the bus frequency was erratic and unreliable. I think one day he was up at 5am....the buses were so f*cked up....I think he got to the course at 3pm.....stayed till 6pm and took forever to get back to the hotel....maybe 11pm? I remember he bought something like a flat of water and some snacks from Walmart/K-Mart? ...and lugging the sh*t for miles back to his hotel like Tom Joad....lol. Another time I think Icecat rented a bicycle....I think it was an event near Carlsbad/San Diego???...that thread was so funny too. Both threads were funnier than any of the goofy crap that happened with you, Paul and I in Portland in 2013....you still golf with that Chinaman? I'm sure when Icecat chimes in...he can provide more accurate info.

Oh, the memories are flooding back now of my reliance on public transport whenever I travel, be it to China (no choice there: laowei like myself can't rent cars) or to golf tournaments I fly to.
The last time I was in Phoenix was in 2012, which was the year Grace would later announce her retirement. I only learned about the bus strike once I landed that Monday afternoon and picked up a newspaper. It was only against one of the subcontractors, Veolia, but they had most of the routes in north Phoenix where I had to be, so my first task was getting to the hotel. With my original itinerary kaput I hopped onto the light rail (which wasn't affected) downtown to where a rush hour express bus normally left for a park and ride lot within walking distance of my accommodations and was fortunate to get on the last one of the evening. Since the tournament is always in March during Cactus League season renting a car was out of the question even if I were so inclined. Tuesday I didn't bother trying to get to the course, so that I believe was when my shopping excursion was, and I had to buy one of those portable luggage carts with the bungee straps to lug my provisions back with me. Wednesday I tested how I was going to try to make it to the course with what busses were running. In my pre-smart phone days the customer service line of the local transit agency got a workout, but I ended up taking one bus halfway back to downtown to the light rail's western terminus, taking that to the stop near the airport that also serves the bus route that terminates at Wildfire, then waiting for the last leg to the course. Thursday morning I had to get there early for Grace's 1st round tee time, and although the east-west route from my hotel to 44th Street was running the route from there up to Wildfire was still erratic so I had to call a cab to take me the last couple of miles. On that day the strike was settled and things were going back to normal, which was helpful on Sunday when I had to endure THREE weather delays before I finally saw, so to speak, Yani Tseng outlast Ai-sama and NYC in almost total darkness to win and caught the last bus off the property that evening.
My trip to the Kia was two years earlier in 2010, the year Hee Kyeong Seo broke through for the win but was overshadowed by Meesh disputing a penalty being called on her in the final round for accidently grounding her club in a hazard, which involved a lengthy visit to the Golf Channel's truck before she finally conceded. After flying into San Diego I took the bus downtown to the train station, took the commuter rail to Encinitas and rode the local bus the short distance to my hotel. To get around the town center and shop for provisions in the plazas along the bus route between Encinitas and the La Costa Resort where the tournament was being held I rented a bicycle from one of the surf shops. Unfortunately it was a single speed model and the bike racks on the front of the local bus only had room for two bikes so if they were both occupied when I tried to get on, which I recall only happened on the way back a couple of times, I was out of luck as the bike and my physique were no match for the hilly terrain.
My magnum opus of tournament coverage, now lost to the ether, was the 2006 US Women's Open, but that was a short drive away for me to Newport, RI. The Reader's Digest version of that adventure will have to wait for another day.

Thanks Ice....ya....I kinda thought you didn't know there was a bus strike until you landed in Phoenix....and I remember reading that you struggled carrying all kinds of supplies from the store back to your hotel.
I didn't know there is a light rail system in Phoenix.
My wife and I went on a Arizona golf vacation back in 1997...Phoenix...Yuma....Tuscon...but didn't spend much time in Phoenix...it was an unplanned road trip...by the time we got back to Phoenix...basically all the hotels were sold out....so we stayed somewhere north of Phoenix....my big regret was not venturing up to Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon...it was like 55*F up there and we decided to stay in the 72*F weather in the south....duh.
We drove downtown Phoenix one night...by accident...some parts didn't look too safe....they were still building Chase Stadium.
My friend just got back from a golf vacation in Phoenix.....he paid $600 for a mini van rental....I think I paid $150 max for my sedan rental in 1997....I think the speed limit around Yuma/Tuscon etc was 75 mph....that's really fast for we Canucks...but enjoyed putting the car in 80 mph cruise.

I didn't know there is a light rail system in Phoenix. The Valley Metro Rail has only existed since the winter of 2008/9, running from Mesa and Tempe through downtown Phoenix and ending in its mid-northern reaches at 19 Avenue & Dunlap. My first visit to the Valley of the Sun was for the J Golf Phoenix LPGA International in 2009 at Papago Golf Course, a recently renovated muni which lacked adequate clubhouse facilities so the Tour had to rent out temporary structures to serve that purpose (this was still during the Bivens era, remember). I also attended the inaugural Founders Cup two years later, but on both occasions my hotel was much closer to the airport than where I stayed in 2012 but still close to where I could catch a bus to the event. My first recollection of riding the light rail was to go downtown after a day at Papago in 2009 to watch an ECHL game at the Suns' home arena hosted by the now-defunct Phoenix Roadrunners, who were the San Jose and Worcester Sharks' AA affiliate that year.Kevin

If you think Papago use to have a lousy clubhouse before the reno's,,,you should have seen the clubhouse in 1997 at Randolph North in Tuscon when a LPGA event used to be played there...it was a COMPLETE JOKE....I played the course with my wife....I know I talk and joke a lot about goat tracks...but this was truly a REAL goat track.

The pairing for the Monday qualifier posted. 8:22 Jimin Kang Julieta Granada Annie Park are paired together. I will probably follow them on the back nine only.

I'll be seeing what SH Park is made of coming in as a favorite. With so many birdies expected to fly again, it will be a tall order.
Michelle Wie had some extra gum and string put into her and she fit to try to win two in a row.
As Paula Creamer is making her debut, I learn she is no longer Mrs. Heath.

Monday Qualifiers: Brittany Benvenuto -4 Kyung Kim -4 Are caddies required at Monday qualifying?....I can't remember...I think they are cause I think I saw loops....I think many loops are family members or friends at the 2015 CWO qualifying...the only one I have watched.
