Too funny...by coincidence and by accident.....I just looked at this vid....Eugenie calling Masha a CHEATER. You Yanks gotta love we Canucks...say it as it is...#NOFILTER.....and in hockey....we drop the gloves....no Pink Shirts here in Canada. I think SYR needs to see this vid before her press conference at the Volunteer's this week.

No wonder women get paid as much as men in tennis...so MUCH DRAMA to capture attention...the LPGA needs this. Ilie Nastase makes Jo Konta cry...calling her a F***** B*****....asks Anee Keothavong for her hotel room # and asks if Serena's child will be chocolate with milk. Ilie for LPGA commish...forget about BJ. What a GONG SHOW.

more pics and video on my blog: Maria Sharapova Wins First Match In Return From Suspension at 2017 Porsche Tennis Grand PrixMaria SharapovaI admit that the past couple of weeks I’ve still been stewing over that atrocious armchair officiating call-in that sank Lexi Thompson at the 2017 ANA Inspiration. But I can’t let the return from suspension of Maria Sharapova go by without posting. The 5-time Major winner and former world #1 shook off a slow start and early break of serve to defeat Roberta Vinci 7-5 6-3. With all due respect to Vinci, whom non-tennis fans might remember as the woman who shocked the sports world with an upset of Serena Williams in the semifinals of the 2015 US Open, denying Serena the calendar year Grand Slam, this was a perfect opponent for Masha after 15 months away. She has never lost to Vinci, not even a set. More than that, Vinci’s style of play, slicing, spins, getting a lot of balls back in play without a lot of power, allowed Sharapova to find her footing and overcome early nerves. Against somebody like Johanna Konta, Karolina Pliskova or Angelique Kerber, had Masha come out shaky, she might have found herself down 0-4 before working up a sweat. Maria SharapovaRoberta Vinci was one of the players who spoke out against Maria Sharapova receiving wildcards into events. It’s pointless for me to argue the case for Masha. People will feel how they feel. But while Vinci, Caroline Wozniacki, Dominika Cibulkova, Angelique Kerber and others opposed granting her wildcards, there were players like Svetlana Kuznetsova and Karolina Pliskova who had no issues with the decision of tournament directors allowing Sharapova in. There were also prominent ex-players who spoke in support of Masha, such as Kim Clijsters and Andy Roddick. “She has done her punishment. I was disappointed and surprised when the news came out but she’s had the career that she’s had and I don’t think she needs to be punished more.” – Kim Clijsters “She has been penalized, she has served her time, she is coming in with no ranking, so she’s going to have to go through the toughest parts of the draw. I absolutely believe that she would not have kept taking what she was taking had she realized it had been banned, and that’s completely her mistake and she’s said that much. I’m not sure how well she could have gone about it, but she’s certainly served her penalty. I’m not a big fan of penalties after penalties, you know?” – Andy Roddick The bottom line is that Maria Sharapova is back. If Kerber, Simona Halep (another favorite of mine), Domi or anybody else has a problem with the wildcards, then go out and beat her. As well as she played at times today…and her serve was great, 11 aces with a handful of forced return errors…had she been playing an in-form Konta or Kerber today, she probably would have lost. So get her now, ladies. Barring injury, in a few months that 5-time Major winning version of Masha might be back. MARIA SHARAPOVA d. Roberta Vinci, 7-5 6-3

more pics on my blog: Petra Kvitova Makes Triumphant Return With Opening Round Win At Roland Garros 2017Petra KvitovaTears were flowing in the women’s locker room and the stands as Petra Kvitova, one of the most beloved players ever among her peers and fans, made a triumphant return to the tour with a 6-3 6-2 win over Julia Boserup in the first round of Roland Garros 2017. Forget about paying tennis. Keep in mind how close Petra came to losing her life when she had to fight off a knife wielding home intruder 6 months ago. A southpaw, Kvitova suffered severe damage to her left hand when she used it to block the attacker’s blade. There was talk that she might never play again or at best miss the entire 2017 season. To see Petra back this early, still unable to fully control all of the fingers on her dominant hand, and playing well enough to win put smiles on the faces of many in the tennis world. Sure, Boserup is 86th in the world, but there were some who feared Kvitova might be embarrassed after not only the physical layoff, but also carrying the emotional weight of the moment regardless of how low her opponent was ranked. I wouldn’t say Petra is a favorite to take the title here. In fact, despite her enormous talent she has only made it past the 4th round once at Roland Garros. But that’s not even the point, it’s just a wonderful day to see Petra, one of my current Mount Rushmore favorites (along with Madison Keys, Maria Sharapova and Simona Halep), out on court happy and healthy. 15 PETRA KVITOVA d. Julia Boserup, 6-3 6-2

more pics on my blog : Defending Champion Garbiñe Muguruza Wins First Round Match At Roland Garros 2017Garbiñe MuguruzaWith Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova absent from Roland Garros 2017, three former women’s singles champions were left in the draw – Svetlana Kuznetsova (2009), Francesca Schiavone (2010) and the defending champion Garbiñe Muguruza (2016). With Schiavone and Muguruza facing one another in round one, at best there would be only two former title holders still in the draw by Tuesday. That’s what happened as Svetlana beat Christina McHale in her opener and, as expected, Garbiñe took out Francesca 6-2 6-4. Since her career breakthrough in last year’s final, beating the supreme Serena Williams, Muguruza has not been able to find a consistent groove. I thought that might happen, as it did to others (Li Na for example), who have reached Major success in the past. Not everybody keeps piling up tournament wins like Serena, Venus, Masha and Vika. Also, let’s keep in mind that at 23, Garbiñe has plenty of time for success. That said, with big name champions either absent or returning from injury, this would be a good time for Muguruza and others to take advantage. 4 GARBIÑE MUGURUZA d. Francesca Schiavone, 6-2 6-4

more pics on my blog: Madison Keys Wins 1st Round Match At Roland Garros 2017Madison KeysI’m not an avid Twitter user. But when I do tweet about my favorite tennis player, Madison Keys, I use the hashtags #ImWithMaddie and #FutureMajorWinner. Maybe I should reconsider using the latter. Don’t misunderstand me, I absolutely believe she will be a multiple Major winner. It’s just that so many, including me, have piled such heavy expectations on Maddie’s shoulders that the weight of losses, and the criticism she has received, has been unfair to her. The legendary Chris Evert has often spoken about how today’s WTA tour is not the same as when she was a top player and there were no real challenges until the quarterfinals of tournaments. Now, even top players can get ousted in round one. Top seed Angelique Kerber and 7th seed Johanna Konta both lost in the first round of Roland Garros 2017. I’ll go even further and say that today’s WTA doesn’t allow young guns to just accumulate title after title without some growing pains. Martina Hingis is probably the last teenager to come out the gate and torch everybody. Players like Kerber, Li Na and Francesca Schiavone won their first Major in singles at advanced ages (for tennis). Kerber was the WTA Player of the Year last season, winning her first two Majors at 28. Maddie is only 22…and a multiple WTA title winner. The tennis world should back off and let Keys progress at her own pace. If she realizes her Major dreams, few will be happier for her than me. But if she doesn’t, that’s okay too. Just take it day by day. And today I am pleased to see her open up her 2017 Roland Garros campaign with a win over Ashleigh Barty, 6-3 6-2. She was very impressive. Even had she lost, I would caution tennis fans not to jump off the Maddie bandwagon. You can expect her to win Majors. Just don’t expect it on some predetermined timetable. 12 MADISON KEYS d. Ashleigh Barty, 6-3 6-2

more pics on my blog: Garbiñe Muguruza Survives Early Scare From Anett Kontaveit, Advances To Third Round At Roland Garros 2017Garbiñe MuguruzaIf you don’t follow the WTA tour on a weekly basis, you might not be aware of how good Anett Kontaveit is/has become. The rising 21-year old Estonian, who speaks English with a British accent, was runner up in Biel, Switzerland and hit #1 ranked Angelique Kerber off the court in Rome. For sure, defending Roland Garros champion Garbiñe Muguruza knows how good Kontaveit is. Anett beat Muguruza in Stuttgart a few weeks ago before losing in the quarterfinals to the comebacking Maria Sharapova. It was a three setter in Stuttgart between Kontaveit and Muguruza. So it was again in the second round of Roland Garros 2017, but this time it was Garbiñe emerging victorious, 6-7 (4) 6-4 6-2. This was a very solid and impressive win for the defending champion. There are still potential roadblocks in her quarter, but this victory should give her a confidence boost. 4 GARBIÑE MUGURUZA d. Anett Kontaveit, 6-7 (4) 6-4 6-2

more pics on my blog: Simona Halep Advances To Third Round At Roland Garros 2017Simona HalepRoland Garros 2017 presents a great opportunity for Romanian star Simona Halep. Not only is she one of the top favorites to win the title, if she does she will rise to the world #1 ranking. Of the 32 seeded women’s players who don’t have a Major title in singles already, Simona’s 15 singles championships are exceeded only by Caroline Wozniacki (25 titles) and Agnieszka Radwanska (20). Nobody wants to known as the best player without a Major. Halep defeated Tatjana Maria 6-4 6-3 in round two of Roland Garros 2017 to take another step to shedding that moniker. But the path to winning this event gets considerably more challenging in round three as Simona will face the rising talent Daria Kasatkina. Dasha is capable of taking out Halep. However, if Simona brings something close to her A game to each match, it will be tough for anybody to stop her from being the last woman standing. 3 SIMONA HALEP d. Tatjana Maria, 6-4 6-3

more pics on my blog: Garbiñe Muguruza Into 4th Round At Roland Garros 2017, Sets Up Showdown With Kristina MladenovicGarbiñe MuguruzaThe women’s singles draw at Roland Garros 2017 will feature two middle weekend matches with high intrigue between a title favorite and rising star with the talent to finish this event holding La Coupe Suzanne-Lenglen. One is Simona Halep vs Daria Kasatkina. The other is defending champion Garbiñe Muguruza vs France’s Kristina Mladenovic. Those who don’t follow the WTA tour weekly might not know that Kiki has been one of the best players on tour this year. Honestly, despite Mugu being the defending champion, I would make Kiki the favorite…except…that her back has been hurt and she’s not 100% healthy. She barely escaped losing in both the first and third rounds. Meanwhile, Garbi is starting to look more like the player who broke through in Paris last year. 4 GARBIÑE MUGURUZA d. 27 Yulia Putintseva, 7-5 6-2 13 KRISTINA MLADENOVIC d. Shelby Rogers 7-5 4-6 8-6

I wish this was on something besides the Tennis channel! There is coverage today on NBC...and next weekend too. While I will watch Tennis Channel, I've never been a huge fan. Compared to the high production value of Golf Channel, relatively speaking, TC needs an upgrade.

more pics on my blog: Caroline Wozniacki, Kristina Mladenovic, Timea Bacsinszky and Jelena Ostapenko First Four Into Roland Garros 2017 QuarterfinalsCaroline WozniackiNot only will there be a first time women’s singles champion at Roland Garros in 2017, whichever player is the last woman standing will be a first time Major champion. The top half of the draw has determined the first four quaterfinalists – Caroline Wozniacki, Kristina Mladenovic, Timea Bacsinszky and Jelena Ostapenko. Wozniacki, a former world #1, is the most accomplished and has played in two US Open finals. Mladenovic has been among the best players in 2017 with 1 title and 3 runners-up. Bacsinszky has reached the Roland Garros women’s singles semifinals and quarterfinals the past two years. Ostapenko was runner-up at Charleston this year and has beaten Wozniacki 3 times in her career. Any of those 4 could be in the final. If there is any separation between them it might be the French crowd, which seemed to unnerve Garbiñe Muguruza in her match against Mladenovic. Kiki could ride their support to the final. 11 CAROLINE WOZNIACKI d. 8 Svetlana Kuznetsova, 6-1 4-6 6-2 JELENA OSTAPENKO d. 23 Samantha Stosur, 2-6 6-2 6-4 30 TIMEA BACSINSZKY d. 10 Venus Williams, 5-7 6-2 6-1 13 KRISTINA MLADENOVIC d. 4 Garbiñe Muguruza, 6-1 3-6 6-3
