If I walk a golf course, there's NO WAY I'm lugging my clubs on my back. My $30 Accuity pull cart from Dick's is a preferred alternative. It has always surprised me to see amateurs at USGA events schlepping a bag of clubs. They're burning up extra calories for no reason and raising their heart rate just when they have a delicate chip or putt to make.

Once a golf market share leader....I'm surprised Wilson hasn't pulled the pin on golf. WILSON! How have they survived in the last 30 years? At one time Spalding and the original MacGregor were real golf brands used by top-notch pros, but now they're pushing up daisies. I assume Wilson would have joined them too...maybe they're being subsidized by the rest of the company, which must be raking in big bucks from their baseball, football, tennis, and basketball gear. ...and they are making an effort to push their brand. They're probably not paying them much, but Kevin Streelman and Rickey Barnes are not stiffs, and P. Harrington used to be an A-lister. They seem to have a presence on the European tours, too (I saw of a pic of their gear trailer at the recent Troon BO). They've put some innovation into there balls and irons...some of it is marketing baloney, but they are trying hard. I think back to my visit at the PGA Tour Superstore two weeks ago...Wilson had their best stuff there, but its product placement in the men's club department could not be worse. But, considering who they are up against, I can't disagree with that decision.

When I caddied in the 70's many of the best players had Haig Ultras. The big shots would give me $20. The ladies would give me four, one dollar bills and treat me to a Coca Cola.

The REAL Koreans are too smart to play Nike junk....though FAKE Grace bought into the Kool-Aid. No, there's one KLPGAer (maybe a rookie) who signed up with Nike this year...I'm too lazy to look up the name. Yup, So Hye Park. I mentioned her in the KLPGA Primer on my SeoulSisters blog. Here's the photo:

My 1st set of clubs...$35....7 piece used jr set....Powerbuilt...including a black bag....my 1st set of spike...women's shoes...no jr. stuff. Do you guys remember aluminum shafts....I say those on Northwesterns at Sears....lol.

In 1974...I started dish washing by hand...no machine...in hot bleach water that ruined my hands....$1.75/hr.....then by 1976 became a busboy...made $20 in tips on Sat night plus $2/hr wage....$5 from 4 waitresses...and was sexually assaulted by them pinching my a*s.....some of them were pretty hot though....so I never complained.....one made me a MAN 2 years later....LMAO. I had some really NICE teachers.....but I wish I had Mary Kay Latourneau as a teacher...she's AWESUMMER!! In grade 5...my teacher looked like Ann Margaret.....I was a teacher's pet....I do anything she wanted...I came to school early to see her and volunteered w/o asking to wash the chalkboards to spend more time with her...the Smiling Buddha is such a S*CK.

Those old clubs were beautiful. One of my friend's parents were rich but frugal. He got some of those Northwestern aluminum shafted irons (used) at Christmas. They seemed ok to me at the time. I do remember some of the older kids that were better players used to make fun of him and those clubs.
I wished I'd kept caddying. Good spending money and I'd be in better shape.

I didn't know one kid that use to caddy.
I know a guy who had a jr membership at Chedoke muni with me for 1 year...he wasn't really into golf....big time skier....his eye doctor dad was a member of Hamilton G&CC....I asked him why he wasn't a member there and why he was slumming at Chedoke...he said in order to be a junior member...he needed to go out with the head pro to determine if he was good enough to become a jr member.

I haven't been to Golfsmith in several weeks, so I dropped by today to see what it was like. It wasn't crowded, but I didn't sense any doom & gloom...I overheard one of their guys trying to schedule a fitting for someone like it was business-as-usual. But, there were some noticeable differences in the stock:
1.) The amount of used clubs was definitely down, particularly the woods/hybrids.
2.) They had a couple of Nike iron sets on a display wall. There was an empty space for the Nike Vapor Pro Combo set.
3.) The section for new Nike woods and hybrids is almost completely wiped out. They had space for 120 clubs, but all I saw there were two FWs, one hybrid, and one Adams miscellaneous rescue club. Maybe GS was required to return those clubs to Nike after the announcement...I don't know how their business works.
4.) I saw no Nike wedges or putters
5.) They had a few Nike bags but no big discounts to get my attention.
6.) Their top-end balls were still on the shelves, but no special pricing.
*****
Dropped by Dicks SG later...they had a small Nike driver section that was cleaned out. However, that might due to a sign there saying they started a sales promotion on July 29 which dropped the price down to $165.
BTW, they had one box left of Maxfli U6/x urethane balls for $19.99...I applied self-control and said NO!

When the Jetspeed was a failure...TM allowed retailers to return stock for future credits if the stock was paid for. U6's are crap...you need to play some tough tracks with a lot of hazards/woods and become a good ball hawk.

My late father earned some cash as a teen in the late 1940's/early 1950's caddying at Jefferson Park Golf Course, a public venue located in the heart of Seattle.

Michelle Wie is using an Odyssey 2-Ball putter at the ManuLife. After seeing her miss an easy birdie putt, it's definitely the archer, not the arrow. EDIT: Asian Giraffe with 2-Ball putter

EDIT: Asian Giraffe with 2-Ball putter Wiezy did the same thing I did, went shopping for a BLACK 2 ball putter after watching Inbee and Lydia at the Olympics. Except i couldn't find one with a black line through it anyway. Neither could Wiezy. I bet T.KO told them not to give her one w/ the line.
