Hmmmm....looks like Phil is filled with bad karma. Muni got demolished 6-5 by a Canuck....Muni likely freaked out that a middle aged white guy was fanboying her. And if I'm reading it correctly...Kelly Sim got DQ'd That's right, blame me for all those missed putts. ...and St. Germain was no world-beater, IMO. As for Kelly Sim, she DQ'd herself for an incorrect scorecard from Tuesday's medal round: highschoolsports.nj.com/news/article/1366796259097731573/holy-angels-kelly-sim-reflects-on-scorecard-error-dq-in-us-girls-junior-championship/BTW, that pic of the temporary building at #17 is misleading. It's pretty small and it will the TV booth for the broadcasters. I checked out the nearby PGA Tour Superstore later...they have a Honma Beres IS-03 driver for $990. They also have the XXIO 9 driver...the area of the clubface is the smallest I've ever seen on a current 460 cc driver. A Chinese lady (mom?) was pushing Lucy Li's bag on this contraption (currently on sale for $2,200): Here's Hye Jin Choi limbering up at #1...I followed her match for the first ten holes and she is CRAZY good. I was behind Haley Moore's back when she hit driver at #9...teed it up high in the middle of her stance and wasted no time hitting a low cruise missile that kept going and going... Eun Jeong Seong was a total physical mismatch against that little stringbean K. Muzi. At the par-5 13th, Seong's drive was at least 70 paces longer.

I hope Haley Moore can rebound. I enjoy watching her play. I thought she was too old for this tournament. Yes, I was bit confused seeing her at the practice green wearing U. of Arizona duds and having a Wildcats golf bag. You have to be under 18 years of age to be playing this one. After returning home, I learned that she started her freshman Wildcat year this past spring. Maybe she'll play next year's junior too, as the USGA made this announcement: www.usga.org/articles/2016/07/eligibility-changes-made-to-junior-championships.htmlEligibility Changes for USGA Junior Championships to Take Effect in 2017 July 20, 2016
Starting in 2017, major modifications to the eligibility criteria for the USGA's two junior championships will take effect., bringing these championships more in line with the worldwide standards for junior golfers.
The maximum age for competitors in the U.S. Girls’ Junior and U.S. Junior Amateur championships will be raised from 17 to 18 years old. The maximum Handicap Index® requirements for both championships will also be lowered, from 18.4 to 9.4 for the Girls’ Junior and from 6.4 to 4.4 for the Junior Amateur. Additionally, sectional qualifying for the U.S. Junior Amateur will be reduced from 36 holes to 18 holes.
“These significant changes in the USGA’s junior championships are part of the Association’s continuous review of these global-reach competitions, which focuses on conducting excellent championships,” said Stuart Francis, USGA Championship Committee chairman. “Enhancing the player experience is paramount for the USGA as it strives to provide the most comprehensive test in junior golf on the game’s grandest stages. We are thankful to our respective junior committees, state and regional golf associations, and our industry partners for their roles in reviewing and implementing these new conditions of competition.”
The age limit of 17 had been in place for both the U.S. Junior Amateur and U.S. Girls’ Junior championships since they were inaugurated in 1948 and 1949, respectively. In 1964, 36-hole sectional qualifying was introduced for the Junior Amateur. In 1996, 18-hole sectional qualifying was introduced for the Girls’ Junior.
“The changes in our junior championships are being made to ensure the strongest fields possible,” said Diana Murphy, USGA president. “We anticipate that raising the maximum age will also increase our entries and participation in junior golf in general, which ties into our strategic mission for championships. We feel that making the changes in 2017 allows us adequate time to accurately communicate the message to prospective competitors, in addition to facilitating a successful transition.”
The 69th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship is currently being contested at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn., and the 68th U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship is concurrently being contested at The Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, N.J. The championship final matches are scheduled for Saturday, July 23.
Flint Hills National Golf Club in Andover, Kan., is the host site of the 2017 U.S. Junior Amateur, which will take place from July 17-22, and Boone Valley Golf Club in Augusta, Mo., will host the 2017 U.S. Girls’ Junior from July 24-29. Along with the new handicap requirements, the championships are open to amateur golfers who will not have reached their 19th birthday on or before July 22, 2017, for the Junior Amateur, and on or before July 29, 2017, for the Girls’ Junior.

The USGA if full of sh*t...they don't care about women's golf. If one looks at the future sked....other Am events will be played at Riviera, LA G&CC, Pebble, etc...yet the USWO has never been held at these courses....but hosted at recent goat tracks like Cordevalle. And Diana "CLOWN" Murphy is more interested in whether a Shiraz or Pinot Noir is served at dinner to care....what a JOKE. www.usga.org/championships/2014/us-womens-open-champions-21474865265.htmlThe above link shows where they have played the USWO in the past. They did Winged Foot and Baltusrol way back. They did Atlantic City CC as recently at 1975, but I don't see how that property can handle the infrastructure required for today's USWO. Mickey Wright won her last USWO in a playoff at San Diego CC in 1964. She shot a three-under 70 in the playoff on a course set at 6,400 yards (per newspaper reports)...not too shabby considering her stone age ball and clubs. I was surprised to read Bala GC did the USWO in 1952. I never heard of it before and had no idea a private course was within the Philadelphia city limits...they should put a moat around it. It's a William Flynn design bordering the western city suburbs. Their website shows a scorecard with the back tees set at 5,306 yards! It was set at 5,460 yards, par-69 when Louis Suggs shot 284 in 1952.

Another early wake-up call for Hye Jin Choi, but she can take a nap soon...currently 7-up thru 11 holes against Megan Furtney. BTW, two U. of Tennessee ladies were following the early holes of Choi's match against Nichole Whiston on Wednesday...dream on, ladies, dream on. Or maybe they were keeping tabs on Whiston, but she's only 14. That might be the two UT ladies in the pic.

Great stuff Phil. I'm not familiar most of the players but I find this more interesting than 90% of the LPGA/PGA events. Looks like Li still knows how to play golf in spite of Lewis' dire prediction. Moore is in a real fight with Tavatanakit. I'd love to be watching.

Hayley made a huge comeback on the back nine but lost on the 20th hole.
Hye Jin will tee off against her next victim at 12:45 PM.
There are two sisters from Taiwan, Yu Chiang Hou and Yu Sang Hou. They're tied in their matches now...if they both win, it's Yu vs. Yu at 1:45 PM.

Eun Jeong Seong easily won her opening round match despite not making any birdies. She claimed afterwards that she would like to play college golf, but my money is still on her going pro.
Seong is in a firefight this morning against a gal from the Phillippines. Yu Chiang Hu has in fact been up most of the day in their match, although they are square at 15.
Intrigued to hear more about what HJ Choi does well. She certainly had no problem incinerating her second round foe Megan Furtney 7 & 6.

Phil I'd also be interested in detail of Choi's game.
But please don't say Choi has a Lydia style game.....otherwise Happyfan will go postal and start hating Choi.
Any good finds at the PGA Superstore....I've never been to one...how does it compare to Golfsmith....GG is junk. Does it carry used stuff?
Is Muni friendly outside the ropes? Did you chat with any parents?

In each of the rd of 16 pairings...there's an Asian....lol.........and in the past....you'd be hard pressed to find a final that didn't have an Asian. We've come a long way from being martial arts, ping pong and math champs. Asian Lives Matter!

It is tough to back a player and see her lose a close match. Moore may never be good enough to play on the LPGA tour, but the Americans certainly could use a player with that type of raw emotion and charisma.

Eun Jeong Seong rolled on into the quarterfinals, beating Yu Sang Hou of Taiwan in the quarters 4 & 3. Earlier in the day she beat her younger sister Yu Chiang 2 & 1. No Hou-Hou match up this year!
HJ Choi also made it through to the quarters, outlasting a Thai golfer, Paphangkorn (Patty) Tavatanakit, 2 Up.
Fox Sports 1 will cover the semifinals tomorrow and the finals on Saturday. Set your Tivo!
(also advancing are Korean American Andrea Lee and another Korean, 15-year-old Yujeong Son.

Blah...I don't get FS1 here....all I'll get on TSN2 is the boy's Am today. I wanted to see Choi & Seong's game.
Hmmmmm....no whitety's are left....those Koreans (3 real & 1 fake) beat up on the pasty faces. White Lives Matter!
I remember seeing lots of the 2012 girl's Am in 2012 on GC.

I practiced next to Lee once at Harbor Golf Center. I felt pretty inadequate. Not the first woman that made me feel that way.
